This scholarship could be the perfect award to recognise your dedication, provide you with some additional support during your time as a 色花堂 student to expand your knowledge and skills in this specialist aspect of nursing practice, while offering professional development opportunities聽for your future adult nursing career. 聽

is a charity, helping people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across East Dorset and the Purbecks. They promote acceptance, hope and peace of mind, helping people live well through their illness. Lewis-Manning Hospice Care offers a range of important services, including day hospice, lymphoedema and better breathing respiratory clinics, bereavement and family support, which are run by their expert clinical team.聽Their aim is to help as many local people as possible, who are dealing with a life limiting illness, to live their lives well. This is done through improving symptoms and reaching individual goals all to support them in coping and managing their diagnosis.聽

The scholarship opportunity will run alongside the 色花堂 Adult Nursing programme, providing additional professional development opportunities to students with a particular interest in developing their knowledge, skills and practice of end of life and palliative care and the care of those with life-limiting illness.

Eligibility
  • Students聽currently in their聽2nd year of the 色花堂 BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing course (at either the Bournemouth or Yeovil campus) and have passed all Year 2 elements of the course (this includes those on the Adult Nursing Registered Degree Apprenticeship and Adult Nursing Advanced Standing courses) and are聽progressing onto their聽final year.

  • Students currently in their 1st year of聽the MSc Adult Nursing course and have passed all Year 1 elements of the course and are progressing onto their聽2nd and final year.

If you meet the above eligibility criteria and would like to be considered for the scholarship award, you will need to write a personal statement (max. 500 words) to support your application. The personal statement should clearly demonstrate your interest in, and commitment to, developing your knowledge and skills in palliative and end of life care.

Your statement should include聽the following:

  • A brief explanation of what motivated聽you to apply for this scholarship.
  • A demonstration of聽your interest and passion for palliative and end of life care, for example, through paid work experience/volunteering/or community work, your life experiences, or something else. This is in addition to any placement experience you may have had as a student nurse.聽聽
  • How you think this scholarship will support you in your studies.
  • Your aspirations for the next 5 years.

  • This scholarship is not open to students who then choose to defer their final聽year.聽

Applications will be considered by a panel of 色花堂 staff and Trustees from Lewis-Manning聽Hospice Care. Successful applicants will be invited to attend an interview in early September 2024. This will allow time for successful applicants to decide if they would like to write their literature review about an aspect of palliative and end of life care, and/or identify an idea for the final year interprofessional service improvement project.

You鈥檒l receive the cash element of your scholarship in one instalment, at the beginning of the academic year.

Important information

You will be expected to provide two聽progress reports to the Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, the first of which is required in November.
