Members Present: Jacob Martinez Cynthia Giles Amber Ogle Brenda Wilkie Michelle Phay Rachel McAnany Joe Micke Dori Andrepont Approval of Minutes: The minutes for September 17, 2015, were reviewed. Dori Andrepont made a motion to approve the September 17th minutes, Rachel McAnany seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Treasurers Reports: Treasurer Jacob Martinez presented his report. The balance for the Classified Staff Account currently stands at $2,873.21. The Tony Salvatierra Scholarship Fund is at $3,284.23. The Fall 2015 scholarship has been paid out for $300.00, but no one was sure who the recipient was. Gim will be asked to find out. Brenda Wilkie made a motion to approve the Treasurers Report and Joe Micke seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Site Reports: Pahrump: The Nursing room (#113) is completed. Ely: None Winnemucca: A couple of TVs need to be replaced, IAV hopes to purchase them with their Equipment Request funds. The Nursing room (#109) is completed. Battle Mountain: Computer Services were over there this week. Since a recent equipment update, there have been severe problems with the radio signal that feeds classes back and forth. The previous equipment was put back up and the problem appears to be better. Other solutions for a more permanent fix are being discussed. Elko: Jacob introduced new Buildings & Grounds member Marcel Plathe to the group. Marcel is in charge of the Greenhaw Technical Arts Building and replaced Saturnino, who retired last spring. Committee Reports: Bylaws: Michelle Phay presented the changes to the Bylaws, previously approved by the Classified Council, to the Presidents Council which thought the revisions were generous. They are now on President Curtiss desk awaiting his signature. Events / Fundraisers: Brenda Wilkie reported on the Chili Cookoff slated for October 29th in the Leonard Center. After the last meeting she and Joe Micke looked at the electrical situation in the building and figured out a general layout of where entries will be set-up. 10 round tables (80 chairs) will be put in the solarium for people to sit at while eating. A few rectangular tables will be placed in front of the bookstore with condiments, cutlery and bowls. A sign-up sheet will be sent to Classified Staff in Elko for Cornbread, Onions, Cheese, Crackers, Fritos, Sour Cream and Butter. Lisa Frazier and Mary Doucette have volunteered to judge the costume contest. One other person will be asked. Chili entries will be judged by the attendees. Everyone sampling will receive two tickets. They may put the ticket(s) in the boxes on the table of their favorite chili(s). Each entry will have their own rectangular table and electrical outlet, along with sample cups provided by the CC. A box will be placed at each table in which tickets will be collected. The chefs will remain anonymous and each chili will be ranked by the amount of tickets their box receives. Rachel McAnany has agreed to head up the task of decorating and will ask for assistance from Teresa Campos-Carrillo and maybe a couple of others. Joe will ask SGA if they can donate beverages for the event. Webpage: None Grant-in-Aid: Dori Andrepont reported that 16 Classified Staff members are enrolled in classes at ɫ, totaling $8,065.50. Hospitality / Awards: Thinking of you card was sent to Paula Smith. Scholarship: The Council needs to find out who received the Fall 2015/Spring 2016 Tony Salvatierra Scholarship. Presidents Council: Michelle Phay attended and sent a report to the Classified Staff. New Business: Trick or Treat Street with SGA: SGA is seeking volunteers to help hand out candy from 4pm-8pm on October 30th and 31st. SGA Food Drive: November 2nd through the 24th. Brenda and Jacob still planning to handle the turkeys on behalf of the Council. Christmas Party: Wednesday, December 9th in the Leonard Center. There are an estimated 48 total Classified Staff Members, 43 in Elko. Brenda has Santa set to be there and reported that Michelle has been working on an idea for a gift to give to each Classified Staff Member. After presenting the idea, Joe made a motion that we budget $250 (or $6 per staff member) to purchase the items for Santa to give out. Jacob seconded the motion. Dori asked about checking on the legality of using Council funds for gifts. Joe rescinded his motion and restated it, making it dependent on whether or not we are able to legally do so. Cynthia Giles seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Eliseo was asked about the meat and he will check with Cisco to see how much a large prime rib would cost. About $100 is the estimate for 13-15 pounds. President Curtis will need to be asked if we can cook in the Bighorn Bistro. Eliseo would also like to prepare mashed potatoes, veggies and au jus sauce, if the budget allows. We will discuss the food budget at the November meeting.
