Members Present: Dori Andrepont Gim Briggs Dianna Byers Lou Hess Joe Micke Michelle Phay Paula Smith Brenda Wilkie Approval of Minutes: The minutes for June 19th were reviewed. Michelle Phay made a motion to approve them. The motion was seconded by Lou Hess and passed unanimously. Treasurers Report: Michelle Phay handed out a new spreadsheet that she had prepared. It is two-sided and contains the Tony Salvatierra Scholarship Account information on one side and the Classified Staff Account on the either. Paula Smith made a motion to accept the new spreadsheet template and Joe Micke seconded it. The vote passed with no further discussion. The Tony Salvatierra Scholarship Account had a beginning balance of $4,127.73. However, after removing the pending expenditures of $300 for the TS Scholarship in fall of 2014 and $300 for the TS Scholarship in spring of 2015, the available balance of that account is $3,527.73. The beginning balance for the Classified Staff Account was $2,898.32. It will be $2,773.68 once DPO 67579 clears from the Classified Council BBQ. Michelle reported that $124.64 was spent on food for the event, which will be covered under Old Business. Gim Briggs made a motion to approve the Treasurers Report and Paula Smith seconded it. The vote passed with all in favor. Site Reports: Battle Mountain: Battle Mountain has a new room! The second room in the modular is now IAV Room BM 4, the room formerly known as BM 4 is now an IAV Computer Lab. Ely: IAV Room 112 is to be upgraded with new flat-panel television sets. Pahrump: IAV Room PVC 120 is to be remodeled next week and is set to receive a new Smartboard and new flat-panel televisions. Winnemucca: Winnemucca will soon be added to the GBC locations that can utilize Lecture Capture technology. A system has been purchased and will be installed into Room 109. The Electrical Classroom was recently updated with new Smart Lightray Projectors. Elko: GTA 128 is under remodel. It will receive a new High Definition system as well as a new Polycom and flat-panel TVs. A Mediasite Lecture Capture system has been installed in GTA 130, so now lectures and programs in that room can be recorded. Michelle Phay told the group that there has been a lot of moving around of Faculty and Staff office in the newly named DCIT Building. A brief discussion was had on which other departments (such as Computer Services and Media Services) needed to be notified so that phone lists and computer names were accurate. Dori Andrepont let the group know that the Math Department is doing interviews and campus tours for a professor to replace Richard Kampf. Sameer Bhattarai has taken a job at TMCC so his Fall 2014 class have been distributed amongst the current GBC staff members and a new Science Professor will be hired in January. Brenda Wilkie mentioned that she was told the Nursing Department has applied for two grants that total $1.5 million dollars and, if received, will mean two new IAV rooms, one in Winnemucca and one in Pahrump. Dianna Byers confirmed the information and also announced several new and exciting staff changes in the Health Sciences. Effective July 1st, Dr. Amber Donnelli became the new Dean of Health Science and Human Services. Linda Bingamen has taken a new job. Stacy Warnert is a new faculty member and Sarah Lino is now doing the Lab and CNA coordination. Dianna added that the Nursing Program has accepted 20 new ADN students and 21 new RN-BSN students. Committee Reports: Bylaws: No Report Events / Fundraisers: No Report Webpage: No Report Grant-in-Aid: No Report Hospitality / Awards: Jeanne Long was unable to attend the meeting but reported that a Thank You Card was sent to Albertsons for the discount they gave the Classified Council for the BBQ on July 1st. Get Well Cards were sent out to Classified staff members. Scholarship: Dori Andrepont brought up the balance in the Treasurers Report and asked Gim Briggs if it would be legal for us to approve the funding of a (one-time) additional scholarship from both the Tony Salvatierra and Classified Staff Accounts. Gim was unsure about the logistics, but said she would look into it after the meeting. Dori made an official motion asking that the Council look into adding an additional $100 Classified Staff Scholarship for both the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 Semesters, totaling $200. Also adding an additional $300 Tony Salvatierra Scholarship for both the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 Semesters, totaling $600. Paula Smith seconded the motion. It was mentioned that perhaps a poster could be created with the names of the TS Scholarship recipients on it so that GBC Staff would know where their donations went. Gim said she would check the FERPA guidelines and see if an announcement of some kind would be possible. That ended the discussion and a vote was taken. The motion passed. Presidents Council Report: Melinda Mott was absent and unable to update the group on the most recent meeting. It was suggested that a written report (even if it was just an email sent out to all of the Classified Staff) should be distributed to all of the Classified Staff after the Presidents Council meetings so that everyone was in-the-know. Dianna Byers said she and/or Melinda (whomever attends the meeting to represent the Classified Council) will try to do that in the future. New Business: Fall Fundraiser(s): Brenda Wilkie made a motion that the date of the Fall Fundraiser be officially set as Tuesday, November 25th and that it be a Dessert Auction. Michelle Phay seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Joseph Micke suggested making the auction a competition as well as a fundraiser. The idea was met with enthusiasm and, after some discussion, it was determined awards should be given to the dessert that received the highest bid. Micke also suggested having people vote on their favorite. Michelle Phay volunteered to create the Peoples Choice ballots and make a ballot box to be placed in MH 110. Phay also volunteered to reserve the room. Paula Smith volunteered to send out an email on November 3rd encouraging people to Save the Date and Dianna Byers will contact the other campuses to see if they would like to participate. Dori Andrepont is in charge of creating the posters which will follow the pie plate design discussed at the last Council Meeting. It will be similar to the Duck Race poster where paper slices are added intermittently to an actual pie-tin tacked to the wall. Brenda Wilkie has the bid sheets created and is in charge of making the cards they will attach to, as well as photographing the dessert items the morning of the auction so that Melinda Mott can send out an email to everyone on campus. There was also a discussion about using the GBC sandwich boards to direct traffic the day-of to the Library. Joe Micke said he will get measurements so that Dori can make posters the exact size & Security will keep an eye on them that day in case the weather is inclement. Dianna also volunteered her table clothes to dress up MH 110 and the room may be hooked via IAV to Brendas office so that she can keep an eye on the room during the day. Summer Training Sessions: Members of the Council reported learning lots of new information in the sessions so far this summer. Those that attended the Basic Car Maintenance class given by Lou Hess loved it. Some people reported not being able to attend because the date of the class was moved due to parking lot issues. According to their catalogue, Continuing Education is doing two evening classes in September on basic car maintenance, so those that missed it on July 10th were encouraged to attend. It was mentioned that not all of the sessions, listed on the orange calendar Gaye Terras had sent out, applied to the Classified Staff. In particular the Administrative Faculty Evaluation Trainings listed for July 23rd and August 11th. Gim Briggs said everyone should plan to be at the Controllers Office overview on July 29th and the HR Updates for Classified Staff on July 30th. Dianna Byers said the FERPA training on August 5th and Behavioral Intervention class on August 8th may be of interest as well. Old Business: Classified BBQ: Melinda Mott had sent some notes with Brenda Wilkie about the BBQ. The location at B & G is excellent and should continue to be where the BBQ is held. The Council should also stay specific on the pass-around list of items to bring, like by specifying chopped or sliced on certain items so that they didnt need to be prepared at the BBQ. Paula Smith, Sandy Quijada, and Christina Park had made the patties by hand ahead of time. Joe Micke said he thought they were way better than frozen patties, and that, if it would make it easier next year, he has an actual hamburger patty-maker that the Council can borrow. Michelle Phay reported that $124.64 was spent on supplies for the BBQ. Melinda had noted that there was too much meat and perhaps we could purchase 25% less next year. Dori disagreed and said the main problem was that the meat wasnt cooked in time, and that there were efforts that were duplicated between B&G and the Classified Council and that next year we should coordinate better with them. Joe Micke asked the group if they were aware that the Cerebral Palsy Crew had come to the BBQ with their potluck items and had been turned away. The Crew had been part of the BBQ for several years. It was agreed that UCP Crew would receive a special invitation in the future. Dori Andrepont made a motion to rename the Classified BBQ the Classified Staff and UPC BBQ to ensure that they will never be excluded again. Joe Micke seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Joe added that Tony Cortes had thrown a pizza party for the crew at B&G the very next day, but it was suggested that an apology come from the Council itself. Jeanne Long will be asked to write an apology card to UPC on behalf of the Classified Council and Brenda Wilkie and Joe Micke will deliver it. Joe also volunteered to head-up the event next year and handle the coordination. Adjournment: Paula Smith motioned to adjourn and Michelle Phay seconded it. The meeting was adjourned at 10:32 am. )+-/1ABUY_abdnoq* 0 9 : J U d e ޻ΨΨިΨިޑΑΑ޻~$hJwhqCJOJQJ^J_H aJhWU_CJOJQJ^J_H aJ h*hq$h*hqCJOJQJ^J_H aJ$hqhqCJOJQJ^J_H aJh#D0CJOJQJ^J_H aJhqCJOJQJ^J_H aJ!hq5CJOJQJ^J_H aJ,#Bd , J e f g { | d^gd<pd^p`gd#D0 dgdq $da$gdqe f g { | !
