Winnemucca Jolina Adams Ely Kandy Scheel, Bundy Piscovich Call Meeting to Order: Jolina Adams called the meeting to order at 9:34 a.m. Approval of Minutes: Delores Whittaker made a motion to approve the minutes and Renae Jim seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Treasurers Reports: Gaye Terras read the Treasurers report for March 8 April 13, 2011. Ending balance was $3782.03. The Tony Salvatierra Scholarship fund stands at $1052.34. Renae Jim made a motion to approve the Treasurers report and Carmen Matlock seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Site Reports: Battle Mountain: No report. Ely: Their annual Easter egg hunt will be taking place on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Winnemucca: No report. Pahrump: No report. Elko: No report. Committee Reports: By-Laws: No report. Events/Fundraisers: Carmen Matlock reported that the bake sale was a great success with a total of $457.05 profit made. Winnemucca did a wonderful job and raised $200.00 at their site. The money was given to the foundation and will be deposited into the Tony Salvatierra scholarship account. Everyone commented that it was great event and did not take too much effort to pull off. The event could possibly be run every semester or at least once a year. Carolyn Wahlstrom stated that there are two more weeks until the raffle drawing and ticket sales ends. The sales are going well and everyone will need to get their tickets into her before April 29th before the drawing. She wondered if anyone wanted to do ticket sales at Khourys or other stores, but the council felt that it would be best to keep it to the GBC campuses for the first time. The pictures of the prizes were sent to GBC classified employees and to other sites for display. Web Page: No report. Grant-in-Aid: No report. Hospitality/Awards: No report. Scholarship: No report. Presidents Council: There have been no new meetings as President Diekhans has been busy traveling to Carson City for legislative meetings and to Board of Regents meetings. Old Business: There were some questions as to where the bake sale proceeds were to be deposited. Should they go to the general classified account or the Tony Salvatierra scholarship account? The committee felt it better to add to the Salvatierra scholarship account as that account has only enough in it for one more year of scholarships. Delores Whittaker made a motion to have the monies deposited into the Salvatierra account and Carmen Matlock second the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Nominations are now needed for next years classified executive council. It was decided that Renae Jim would send an email out today that nominations have begun and will close on April 28th. Renae stated that she would be happy to visit classified staff to encourage participation. Voting will take place the week of May 2nd through May 6th. Dorinda Friez will do the tabulations for the voting by email or hard copy. New Business: It is time to start the nominations for this years outstanding classified staff. The nominations were a little behind for last year, which is why Jolina Adams just received her award this past fall. It was felt it would be best to run the ballots and voting for the executive council volunteers and the outstanding classified staff concurrently. We hope to get more involvement and voting if we do it all at one time. Dorinda Friez will also tabulate the voting for outstanding classified staff. Delores Whittaker passed out the new positive challenge for this period and asked people to pass them out to any individual you would like to say hello to. They are happy eggs. Presentations: Pat Anderson gave a presentation of the new policy and procedures that need approval from classified council on For Cause Drug and Alcohol Testing Procedures for State of Nevada Classified Employees. Pat stated that the policy is the same for all state classified employees. She gave an overview of the procedures for all GBC sites. More training will be given to security and human resources staff in May. The policy was reviewed by classified council and Gaye Terras made a motion to approve the policy and Renae Jim second the motion. It passed unanimously. Pat also presented 2 newly updated federally mandated policies and procedures for suspicious person or person with a weapon and timely warning notices. These updated policies were reviewed by John Albrecht, the attorney for GBC, the sheriff and police departments. They include emergency evacuation plan and a change in the response technique for a person with a weapon. The policy now states that if you think you are capable try to rush or overtake the suspect. There is some concern over this part, but Pat reminded us these are only suggestions and every person will have to make up their own decisions. Pat would like to give a presentation and demonstration of these new policies and is willing to do so whenever we can get time together to do this, possibly in the summer time. It was also mentioned that classified staff would like to have more fire drills. It would help to be better prepared, if an emergency ever actually happened. Adjournment: Delores Whittaker made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:41 a.m. and Jolina Adams seconded the motion.
