Site Reports: Battle Mountain: No report. Ely: No report. Winnemucca: Jolina Adams reported that the bus to Carson City will be stoping to pick up students on their way to the legislature on Monday, March 21, 2011. Pahrump: No report. Elko: No report. Committee Reports: By-Laws: No report. Events/Fundraisers: No report. Web Page: No report. Grant-in-Aid: No report. Hospitality/Awards: No report. Scholarship: There was a note from Irma Romero, who could not attend the meeting, that she would like volunteers to be on the scholarship committee to help review scholarship applications and to please contact her if you are interested. Presidents Council: General discussion but nothing new that was not brought up at the public forum on the budget by President Diekhans. Old Business: New Business: Irma Romero would like classified council to consider reducing the number of scholarships given out to 1 per semester as apposed to the two we are now giving. There is some confusion though because the classified account stands at $3782.03 and can withstand the scholarships it gives out for a while, but the Tony Salvatierra scholarship funds are getting low and it gives $600 per year with only $1052.34 remaining. It was decided to table the discussion until classsified council meets again to verify which scholarship account Irma would like to reduce. Carolyn Wahlstrom volunteered to get a raffle started to raise money for the scholarship fund and Paula Smith offered to help Carolyn get that project going. Carolyn and Paula were going to check with the foundation on the proper procedure to follow. A report on the vending machine in Winnemucca was given by Jolina Adams as there was a question if Winnemucca had a working vending machine on campus. Jolina stated that their machine is not working right now and because of the cost to replace it, Winnemucca will not be getting another one. Sonja Sibert wanted feed back from classifed staff on service awards for GBC staff. There was some confusion at the last award ceremony and some staff members thought they should be getting service awards for more years than they received. Sonja wanted to know if classified staff wants the awards given for continuous years worked or for total service years. It was decided that classified staff would like some more information from Sonja as to how the years are calculated now. Delores will get in touch with her and invite her to our next meeting or have her write something that will explain it. A bake sale was proposed to also raise some money for scholarships also. Carmen Matlock said she would check with Dorinda Friez to see if it would be any conflict with Xavier and Caf X and she would also talk to the foundation to find out what paper work needed to be filled out and how it will be handled by them. It was decided that we did not want to wait until the next meeting to report back and we would report over email and Carmen would get that going ASAP. We would like to be able to report at the next meeting how much money was made by the bake sale. Chris Marshall and Jolina Adams reported on the budget task force meeting that took place on March 16, 2011 and stated that President Diekhans gave a report on the FY12 budget will be reduced in the following areas: Operating/equipment 1.1M Part Time Faculty 0.1M Fees 0.2M Positions* 1.2M *At this time all the position reductions are vacant positions. Classified staff will be affected in the following areas: Library Assistant Custodial Worker Administrative Assistant - this in one full time position in the COT area and two part-time positions; one in Winnemucca and one in Battle Mountain. President Diekhans asked task force members to take this information back to their divisions to get their feedback on the reductions. The budget for FY12 will have reductions but the budget for FY13 will be even further reductions and those will include a loss of staff. There is another meeting to be held on March 23. It was also brought to classified councils attention that it is time to get the election of new board members on the adgenda and find the time table as to when that email to classified staff needs to go out asking for new volunteers. Delores Whittaker passed out the new positive challenge for this period and asked people to pass them out to any individual you would like to say hello to. Adjournment: Delores Whittaker made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:42 a.m. and Carmen Matlock seconded the motion.
