Carl stated that Jolina has been an enjoyable, dependable employee of ɫ for 20 years. She received her A.A. in spring of 1993 and continued on for her bachelors degree at ɫ in spring of 2007. Lynn Mahlberg thanked Jolina for her many years of service in the student services area and that she is much appreciated for her training of past directors and is a huge resource of knowledge for the Winnemucca Center. Jolina thanked everyone for the award and was very humbled by all the attention. Paulette Batayola of SGA gave a presentation on the changing of the school colors from sage green and gold to forest green and gold. The students held an election this past September to officially change the colors, but it was never taken to the Administrative level for a formal approval. The students would like to have the forest green and gold to make it easy to identify GBC just as can be done with UNR or UNLV. Sage green is not easily found for clothing or other items for students. Paulette stated that there will be no cost involved in the change, as they would continue to use up what is on hand before new items were purchased. Students would like to have unity and pride attached to the school colors. Cynthia Vaughn-Giles asked if there could be an accent color of forest green added to the official colors and if that could be one of the options for classified staff to give their opinion to Presidents council in December. Classified council will be sending out a ballot with all the information to classified staff for an official vote of their opinions and after the votes are tallied, Delores and Jolina will present the results to Presidents council on December 7th. It was agreed that the agenda item of the Thanksgiving service event be moved ahead while Paulette was in attendance. Hunt for the Hungry is a service event that the SGA and other clubs on campus organize for needy families. The GBC clubs go door to door in the Elko community to gather food for full Thanksgiving dinners. They exceeded their goal last year and hope to do the same this year. Delores suggested that classified staff could help by having collection areas where non-perishable items can be dropped off for donation. We will need a date from Paulette as to when the food will be needed for deliveries. Carmen Matlock asked if SGA will be doing food drives in all of the GBC sites. Paulette will take these suggestions to the next SGA meeting and will get back to Classified Council with some dates. It was also suggested that maybe Classified Council could also do a service project in early 2011 for families who still need some assistance. Approval of Minutes: There were no corrections to the minutes of September 16, 2010. Pat Loper made a motion to approve the minutes and Renae Jim seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Treasurers Reports: Gaye Terras was absent so Delores Whittaker read the Treasurers report for September 15 October 13, 2010. Expenditures were $16.00 for the Outstanding Classified Staff Award. There were no revenues to report. Ending balance was $3736.20. The Scholarship fund stands at $1352.34. Renae Jim made a motion to approve the Treasurers report as read and Jolina Adams seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Site Reports: Battle Mountain: No report. Ely: Carol Martin stated they were busy with all the fall activities such as a pumpkin carving contest by SGA. Winnemucca: Jolina reported that SGA is also sponsoring a pumpkin carving contest at their site and they will have a Halloween Carnival on Nevada Day in Winnemucca. They have been busy with iNtegrate and the spring schedule. Pahrump: Jackie wanted to say thank you for the sweet surprises from the Positive Challenge that have arrived at their site. Elko: Pat Loper is retiring on Jan 1, 2011 from GBC. Diviesh Bahkta was introduced as the new support person for Science, Math and PEX departments. Committee Reports: By-Laws: No report. Events/Fundraisers: No report. Web Page: Delores Whittaker said the web page is current with Jolina Adams listed as the outstanding classified staff winner for 09-10. Grant-in-Aid: No report. Hospitality/Awards: No report. Scholarship: Irma Romero is now the chair of the scholarship committee. Presidents Council: Delores Whittaker reported that classified council has been asked to bring the school colors officially to our meetings to give our opinion on this issue. President Diekhans will be traveling to Winnemucca to present the award to Jolina. President Diekhans also reported United Way has asked if any GBC personnel would be willing to be a board member. The IAV Bingo night was tabled for now. Paulette Batayola stated that SGA has been extremely busy and that the school colors issue was very important to the students. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the policy for missing students was implemented and it worked very well. Old Business: Jolina is going to ask President Diekhans about the description for the Budget Task Force volunteer while he is in Winnemucca. The Positive Challenge is working well. The changing of the school colors was discussed again and Cynthia Vaughn-Giles suggested that email voting be done with as much information and history as possible. Delores will draft an example to be presented at Executive Classified Council and then distributed for voting and more discussion at the November meeting. New Business: United Way is looking for board member volunteers that will sit on their board. The volunteers will be a voting board member who will work on their own time with the United Way. Carmen Matlock asked for a donation from classified staff of $25.00 to use to purchase a savings bond for a drawing for the Father/Daughter Grand Ball on November 12, 2010. She explained that although there is a charge for tickets to the ball, by the time the venue, food and DJ is paid for the Continuing Education department will not be making a profit. They wanted to keep the event affordable for families to be able to attend. They will be giving away other donated items, but the hope is that the savings bond will be used for education when it matures because the girls are at the right age for the bond to have time to mature. Renae Jim made a motion to donate the $25.00 and Pat Loper seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Adjournment: Renae Jim made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:44 a.m. and Delores Whittaker seconded the motion.
