Scholarship: Pat Loper was not able to attend the meeting but Shirley Jones had mentioned that the deadline for the scholarships is January 21, 2010. Presidents Council: No report. College Council: No report. Old Business: Vending Machines - We have been having problems with the vending machines for a long time now. Classified Council was asked if we wanted to take it over. The machines cost a lot of money. The college will not allow employees to be vendors. It was suggested that Classified Council provide boxes of goodies. It would be for employees only, no students and be based on the honor system. Classified Council would purchase items, provide boxes, and collect the money. We will need to talk to Carl first. We may need a new committee. New Business: Shirley Jones reported on the Ad Hoc Committee meeting regarding the pros and cons of Classified being merged into the NSHE System. Cynthia Vaughn-Giles also attended the meeting. The meeting was initiated by Deidre Lupher who is the Chair of Classified Staff from UNLV. Basically, Deidre Lupher, at her own discretion took it upon herself to see if this was a possibility. Deidre could not provide straight answers. This is not coming from NSHE. Representatives from DRI, UNR, CSN, WNC, GBC, and HR from UNR attended the meeting. Shirley Jones spoke to the attorney, John Albrecht and he said that we shouldnt think about it. There are laws that protect classified workers. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2010. Both Shirley and Cynthia think that this is a waste of time. Jolina Adams and Mary Gilbertson attended the meeting regarding the budget. The main point is that we have to cut our budget 8% for the period of March 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010. That equates to $390,000. Carl has this taken care of. The money will come from the art instructor position not being filled, 1 classified positions not being filled, and the CDL program will be self supporting. For FY11 we have to cut the budget 8% more which equates to $1.2 million. The money will come from not hiring a VP for Administrative Services, the Dean of Extended Studies, a math Instructor, and HR position which will be about $400,000. Another $400,000 will come from programs. The budget cut may be as much as 10%-12%. A special session has not been called by the Governor yet. Pay cuts or furloughs do not come from NSHE, GBC or Carl. They would come from the Governor. Carl has told them that we are not in favor of furloughs. Furloughs do not save any money. It brings down the morale of the staff. Barbara Buckley wrote a letter to the Governor and proposed ideas of all sorts not to cut the education budget. Our enrollment is up. We need to start capping classes and not offer any more classes. They are going to start to track the number of students that we have to turn away. There are programs that can only take so many students. Both Mary Gilbertson and Jolina Adams are on the budget committee and will keep us informed. Cynthia Vaughn-Giles motioned to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Jolina Adams. The meeting was adjourned at 4:06 p.m. , / P e h i ! # 5 @ F +3ARTU\jϸϰϸϰϨ~vmvhvPs5CJaJhvPsCJaJhvPs5>*CJaJh~5CJaJh~5>*CJaJhT5>*CJaJhTCJaJh~CJaJh,g5>*CJaJh,gh,g5CJaJh,gCJaJh,gh,g5>*CJaJh,gh,g5>*CJaJh,gh,g5CJaJ*#5G , O P i # @ +@AU dgd,g $da$gd,gUj$%3ST dgd,gj}*i.U#$%2EV^5RS.2EI]eûûûðûûèàh@CJaJh{CJaJhBCJaJhKCJaJh+5>*CJaJhYbCJaJh+CJaJhvPs5>*CJaJh qCJaJhkCJaJh xCJaJhvPsCJaJhvPs5CJaJ8e@Awغh,gh,gCJaJhvPshvPsCJaJhvPsCJaJh+h{CJaJhBCJaJh xCJaJhYbCJaJh@CJaJh{CJaJ $da$gd,g dgd,g21h:pL/ =!"#$% j 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~ OJPJQJ_HmH nH sH tH J`J LNormal dCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List PK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
