Strategic Planning No report. Grant In Aid for Classified Council Ms. June Braaten and Ms. Cynthia Vaughn-Giles presented a recommendation from Classified Council to amend the Grant in Aid Policy for classified employees. The revised Grant in Aid policy states that all eligible classified staff may apply for Grant in Aid for a total of twelve (12) credits per year, not to exceed six (6) credits per semester (spring, summer, and fall). If a course is job related, the course is paid for by department funds, not GIA, and is in addition to the six (6) credits per semester. For job related courses, it will be up to the supervisor to approve release time for classes taken during regular working hours. The fiscal impact to the college should be an additional $1,700 to $3,000 per semester. The request has been approved by Administrative Council. Presidents Council approved the changes to the policy. Community College Conference Update Dr. Betty Elliott updated Presidents Council on the Community College Conference planning. The steering committee is meeting weekly to work out minor details. There is even more faculty from around the state signed up. The group/department break-outs will be set up according to faculty participation. Full Travel Audit Report Mr. Carl Diekhans distributed copies of the full Travel Audit with general overview and scope. He reported that GBC is operating in a satisfactory manner, with only minor recommendations. The GBC travel form will be changed to make it less confusing. An account signer will not be able to authorize his/her own expense report. GBC will continue its policy of having the Vice President and President approve out of state travel. Upgrade UNR IAV Room (GTA 124) Mr. Diekhans informed Presidents Council that UNR would like to upgrade their interactive room (GTA 124). UNR is requesting our permission for the upgrade because the room is located in our building. Presidents Council approved the request to upgrade GTA 124. Committee to Evaluate Higher Education Mr. Diekhans updated Presidents Council on the Committee to Evaluate Higher Education committee meeting last week. The NCHEMS report shows that GBC is spending half of our educational dollars ($5,000 per FTE compared with the total cost per FTE of $10,000) on instruction, which is very positive. However, the report shows that 35% of GBCs classes have ten students or less. The report does not take into consideration the off campus sections for each class. Presidents Council requested a copy of the report. Event Insurance Issue Mr. Diekhans talked to legal council on the event insurance issue, and has requested that Jon Hansen come to GBC and meet with event planners regarding the issue of insurance coverage. The current issue regarding garage band concerts and how they can acquire affordable insurance will be discussed again after additional research is completed. Miscellaneous Ms. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the wait lists are utilized for enrollment decisions. The wait lists are maintained up until the first day of instruction. The wait lists are void after the first day of instruction. If students still want to get into the class, they can report to the first day of class and the instructor has the authority to allow them into the course or not. The policy has the support of faculty and has been approved by Administrative Council. Presidents Council approved the policy, which will go into the catalog. Ms. Summer Ehrmann announced that the Foundation is kicking off their Family Campaign. The Board of Regents will be meeting at ɫ on June 3-4. (.068?
