Strategic Planning No report. College Goal Sunday Ms. Jeannie Rosenthal and Ms. Joan Williams reported on the College Goal Sunday training that they recently completed in Indiana. They were able to meet at two different sites that have already received the College Goal Sunday grant to observe how things are set up and their progress with the program. They received handbooks with instructions and a timeline to help prepare for the grant. From their observations, Ms. Rosenthal and Ms. Williams recommended recruiting a high-profile spokesperson for the program, or to get students to talk about their success stories. The Lumina Foundation is funding the College Goal Sunday grant. The grant is funded for three-years, at which time an underwriter would have to be found. USA Funds, a subsidiary of the Lumina Foundation, is helping with the planning grant. A meeting will be held in Reno on March 2, 2004 to update the state planning committee on the College Goal Sunday training and to continue work on the planning grant. Presidents Council approved the procedure effective immediately. The Human Resources department will have interoffice mailing envelopes on hand should anyone need them. It was recommended that Ms. Moore discuss the procedure with the academic affairs classified staff. Ms. Carter will email every a copy of the new procedure. System Reports Dr. Betty Elliott reported that Dr. Garry Heberer has been called upon to provide a number of new data points to the System. Dr. Heberer reported that the new Remedial Report has been distributed and can be found on the UCCSN homepage. The remedial report captures the rate of all high school graduates in the state and how many went to each of the institutions. The report shows that 53% (199 students) of Elko High School graduates attended a UCCSN institution with ɫ getting 104 of the EHS graduates. GBC can use this information as a recruiting tool. Dr. Heberer provided section, enrollments, and FTE data for fall 2003. The report shows that the average section size course at GBC is 13.96. The ratio at the highest end is slightly over 19. The net sections taught by part-time instructors are 48%. The report stresses the need for better class-size planning and brings for the issue of faculty workload imbalances. Dr. Heberer will present his information to Faculty Senate. AED Training Presidents Council received AED defibrillator orientation from Ms. Pat Anderson. Presidents Council requested that Ms. Anderson provide this training to all faculty and staff during the in-service activities at the beginning of the semester.
