Nominations for Regents Awards The committees are working to finalize the nominations for the Regents Scholar Award, Teaching Award, and Advising Award. The nominees should be finalized some time next week. Computer Use Policy Mr. Erik Seastedt informed Presidents Council that he is working on a pop-up menu to appear on screen when an employee logs onto the GBC system. The pop-up will have the computer use policy and the employee would have to click that they agree with the policy before it will allow entry into the system. There was discussion regarding who the appropriate authorities were to authorize examination of usage. Presidents Council recommended that it be changed to, Examination of information stored on the system may occur at any time. Mr. Seastedt will talk with Computer Services to see how we can implement this pop-up. Presidents Council recommended that a link be placed on the pop-up to go to the policy so that people are aware of what is authorized and unauthorized computer usage. Miscellaneous Dr. Killpatrick met with Chancellor Rogers last week. One topic of discussion was the TV station. We need to present Mr. Rogers with a proposal for programs such as radio broadcasting or mass communications and how we would utilize the building. Mr. Rogers says that he is amenable to initially funding one position for this endeavor. Erik Seastedt, Mike McFarlane and John Rice will form a committee to come up with a proposal. Dr. Killpatricks evaluation was satisfactory. He received a four-year contract and tenure. Dr. Killpatrick thanked faculty, staff, students, and community members for taking time to participate in the evaluation process. Dr. Killpatrick will resume his Chat with the President forums beginning on Friday, December 17. The forums will allow the President a chance to communicate what is happening around the System as well as here at GBC. Ms. Kathy Schwandt reported that Dorothy Gallagher will be speaking at Faculty Senate on December 10. Also, Genie Goicoechea will give a report on division chair structures. She has collected information from many colleges during her sabbatical and will be sharing the information with faculty senate. Mr. Erik Seastedt reported that a new leave form will be utilized starting January 1, 2005. He reported that after the first of the year, Human Resources will no longer be preparing the quarterly leave statements. The last quarterly statement we receive will be in December. The leave will be tracked by an interactive spreadsheet that will compile the information immediately. The employee can call Human Resources if they are unsure of their leave balance. Ms. Summer Ehrmann reported that the Foundation received two in-kind donations (a motorcycle for small engines, and a van and truck from the mines) thanks to Gary Sundseth and Bret Murphy. Ms. Ehrmann appreciates the support from Presidents Council and getting the word out that all donations go through the Foundation. Ms. Ehrmann reported that the Foundation has established a $34,000 scholarship for student teachers. In addition, through the Goldie Richardson estate, we received $42,000 for scholarships for the BSN program. Ms. Ehrmann also reported that the gas station that was donated to the college from the Griswold estate has been sold. The Foundation and the Controllers office are working on a flowchart on what happens to a donation once it comes to the Foundation. Mike McFarlane announced that Mr. Bret Murphy is the Interim Director of Career and Technical Education until January 31, 2005. Ms. Lynn Mahlberg reported that a series of seminars are being planned for campus. January 21 will be a drug and alcohol awareness seminar. In February the seminar topic will be eating disorders. In March the topic will be legal addictions. December 9 is the SGA Holiday Party, and December 17 will be the Christmas Caroling. Mr. John Rice reported that GBC is sponsoring an editorial series in the Free Press entitled A day in the life We are also underwriting some programming for KUED. We have purchased a schedule on Morning Edition and Talk of the Nation, along with a 'run of programming' schedule that provides "liners" throughout the day, Monday through Fridays. Mr. Rice stated that it is good placement and should get a great deal of exposure in northern Nevada.
