SGA Update Julie Smith reported that student activities continue to have huge numbers. The taco feed had about 200 people and the movie night had about 130 people in attendance. The SGA election is ongoing with 129 ballots received as of this morning. Julie reminded everyone that the Invisible Children presentation is tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the GBC Theater. Update on VISTA Julie Smith reported that the VISTA employee we had hired in July is not at GBC anymore and she had two outstanding projects left to complete. She had recruited 4 students for a VISTA student group. The students received a $500 stipend in exchange for performing 50 hours of volunteer work. Julie was able to put the students to work on projects through Nevada Volunteers. In order to work with Nevada Volunteers Julie was accepted to be the coordinator for the program because she had attended a Nevada volunteer training and had student life experience. She had to write a proposal on some of possible volunteer projects around campus and around the community. In February she conducted a workshop on volunteerism, and contracts were handed out. The student work group has had 6 meetings and reported back to Nevada Volunteers on their projects. The students have been involved with Argentum with 8 submissions and the Take Pride Your Community Clean Up Day. The student volunteer group also has had family nights at Griswold Hall. They have to recruit other student volunteers for the family night project. They also pooled their money to cook healthy meals two times per week at Griswold Hall. The student volunteer group is in the process of getting a sanctioned club on campus, Colleges against Cancer. As part of being in the Nevada Volunteers they have to survey the student body which is going on right now. PC will get the results of the survey. There are 40 students who are interested in participating in the Relay for Life. Trisa Trabrizie, Pahrump student leader and straight A student, is putting together the team for Relay for Life. Faculty Senate Update Frank Daniels said there was nothing to report from the last Faculty Senate meeting. He is in lame duck status now. Guidelines for Search Committees Deferred to the next meeting. Classified Council Update Jolina Adams reported that nominations are being accepted for the executive board for next year. Rural Health Workforce Development Program Mike McFarlane prepared the go/no go form with Margaret Puccinelli today. The primary issue with this grant is that the deadline is this Friday and we really dont have a lot of the details. The rating on the go/no go form was 52. We like to get a score of 70 to proceed with a grant. PC feels that the grant is too complex with not enough benefit to the college. It doesnt give us enough time to look into it further. It appears we would only be the source to run the grant through, and since we dont have a negotiated rate, we dont get anything for administrative costs. PC recommended not pursuing this grant. Miscellaneous Presidents Council recommended the GBC Distinguished Alumni Award be granted to Terri Beasley Bunker from Portland, Oregon. She graduated from the nursing program in 1990 and will receive her DNP from the University of Portland in 2013 (anticipated). She has received numerous entrepreneurial and leadership awards and is the owner of Bridge City Family Medical Clinic in Portland. The GBC Administrator Evaluation is for the president, vice presidents, deans, budget/hr officer, and director of institutional advancement. Employee recognitions will be done during the week faculty return. We will recognize years of service, CLASS recipients, etc. The Presidents Award Ceremony is scheduled for April 30, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., in the GBC Theater. The old plaques for the outstanding students for the different programs or subjects will be given back to the departments for their disposal. The foundation will determine what to do with the old donor plaques. The plaques cannot be put back in the newly remodeled Center for Student Life. The furniture for Center for Student Life wont be installed until after graduation. Carl will be meeting with BCN purchasing to go over some issues. We would like to get better service from them. The Budget Taskforce will be meeting again on April 30, 2010.
