SGA Update Paulette Batayola reported that next week the students, organizations and leaders group (SOL) are hosting SOL days on April 26-28. On April 26 SOL is hosting a club and information fair, a free taco feed, and free movie night. The club fair continues through April 27. On April 28 there will be two viewings of The Invisible Children. The Student Government elections will be starting. There will be a resolution presented at the Board of Regents meeting by the entire Nevada Student Association in support of Option A that was recommended by the Tuition and Fee committee. Invisible Children Jacqueline Lembeck reported on a student life project that she is participating in called The Invisible Children. Children in northern Uganda are being murdered, or kidnapped and brainwashed into becoming killers. These atrocities have been occurring since the war in Uganda started 22 years ago. One way we can help to break this cycle of violence is to bring education to the children. Jacqueline hopes to go to Uganda to bring education to the children after she receives her teaching degree from GBC this May. SGA, ICE, PACE Coalition and the Student Life department are hosting The Invisible Children Legacy Tour on April 27. There will be two presentations of a documentary film and a guest speaker who is a former Ugandan child night commuter. Presidents Council urges all students and faculty to support this event if they can. GBC is lucky to have the tour stop here as they have only appeared at universities around the country. Evaluations for Administrators Linda Uhlenkott & Lynette Mcfarlan reported the Evaluation Committee has come up with a preliminary process for evaluating administrators. They wanted to eliminate the negativity and encourage enrichment. Presidents Council would have to determine who will be evaluated by this process. PC recommended the controller position be taken off. The Deans should be evaluated by their peers. Not everyone has contact with administrators. The audience needs to have first line of contact with person being evaluated. If the audience is not involved with the position then they dont have to complete the survey. We probably want to include adjuncts in the audience pool. The results would be tabulated and sent to the president. Presidents Council likes the prototype. The process will be presented to Faculty Senate in May. If approved by Faculty Senate and Presidents Council the process should be tested for a year before being permanently accepted. Faculty Senate Update Frank Daniels reported the next Faculty Senate meeting is scheduled for this Friday. A committee has been looking at reorganizing the faculty senate containers to make the senate smaller. The special BOR meeting is scheduled for Friday, too, so Frank will be monitoring that via webcast. Some faculty from other colleges will be speaking against some of the language of some things coming forward. Classified Council Update Shirley Jones reported that Frank Daniels attended the last classified meeting and did the same presentation on the budget that he did at the last Faculty Senate meeting. Nominations are now open for the classified executive board. Classified will have an IAV bingo fundraiser in the fall. More information will follow. Shirley reported that Mary Gilbertson will be resigning as soon as her house sells. Policies Top of the Scale Salary Range for Tenured Faculty (For Review) The Evaluation Committee wanted to create an instrument similar to the faculty evaluation for faculty at the top of the salary scale to use for their evaluation process. The NSHE Code stipulates that if raises are given to faculty at the top of the salary scale that it should be a highly selective process. It is not intended that raises should be given to everyone at the top of the scale. The selection process should be developed (with input from the senate), directed, and administered by the president. Faculty must be at level 30 or higher to qualify to apply. The president and the VPs will work on the process presented today to come up with something to take to the Faculty Senate. 3.6 Interactive Video Scheduling (For Approval) - It was noted that IAV service area is not defined in the NSHE Code. Presidents Council approved the policy. iNtegrate Project Readiness Assessment Sonja Sibert has received the second readiness assessment on the iNtegrate project. The assessment is to determine if each institution is on target to implement people soft. Funding, staffing, and budget concerns remain a challenge or risk area. Our score went down from the first assessment because we have lost staff. We are still moving forward and people are feeling more comfortable with their roles. Vice Chancellor Robyn Render is aware of our issues. We may have some consultants on site to help for a week when we go live. Our main concern would be if we were to lose key people. We have gone through how we compare with the other institutions. Lora McCarty and Sonja Sibert are the project leaders for GBC and have done a fantastic job. Each area has a work plan with tasks and due dates. Two student workers are helping to evaluate the work plans around the state. Miscellaneous The GBC Community Service Award will be presented to Mr. Gerald Miller. He has been an adjunct instructor for GBC on and off for many years. Through out his teaching years he has contributed 25% of his teaching salary to the GBC Foundation. He is a big supporter of the GBC Ag Program. He serves on many community service committee boards and contributes many hours of service per week to different organizations. The Distinguished Alumni Award recipient has not yet been determined. Presidents Council will review the candidates at the next PC meeting. The GBC Career Center is hosting a career fair on April 15 in the Fitness Center. Thirty vendors have signed up. John Rice reported the overview of the Clements Group community summits was interesting. The Clements project is moving forward. Mardell Wilkins reminded everyone about the Take Pride in Your Community Clean Up/Green Up and Recycle day is on April 24, 2010. GBC has a team of faculty and students that will participate. Please contact Mardell if you want to join the team.
