Faculty Senate Update Frank Daniels reported INT 100 was approved. The senate chairs had a budget meeting with Chancellor Klaich on Friday. The Chancellor informed faculty about the options on the table and what may happen at the Special Board of Regents meeting in February. Carl said the budget cuts for the remainder of the year were anticipated and can be covered by the college. The next fiscal year is what concerns everyone. Classified Council Update Jolina Adams reported that Classified Council did not meet in December. They had an executive meeting this month. The budget is the only real concern. The system wide committee looking into NSHE state employee versus classified state employee status is meeting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. SGA Update No report. Paulette Batayola will be returning to campus tomorrow. She will be updated on the FF and E for the community center project. She also will be participating on the Budget Taskforce committee. Miscellaneous Carl Diekhans spoke about the budget. The Chancellor has asked the institutions to come up with an 8% reduction plan. For the rest of the year (March 1 June 30, 2010) that would mean $390,000. We have vacancies and operating that can cover the 8% reduction for the rest of this year (FY10). For fiscal year 2011 the 8% cut is approximately $1.2 million dollars for the entire year. Chancellor Klaich has cautioned the presidents to give him real numbers and real situations. The quality of our classes could be jeopardized. If we say we are going to cut programs then we have to reduce programs. If our plan is to reduce FTE we must reduce FTE. Our reduction plan would have to be adhered to if the cuts materialize. There is another Council of Presidents meeting this afternoon. Carl has called for another meeting of the GBC budget taskforce committee for Thursday. Carl Diekhans and John Rice will be traveling with the Clements Group consultant for the community summits next week in Pahrump, Ely, Winnemucca, and Elko. The consultant will be meeting with community leaders to determine what direction GBC should be going with fundraising and programs in the next twelve years. With the help of the Foundation board members between 45 and 60 people have been selected for interviews with the consultant. John said that fundraising is always for the advancement of the college, not to fund deficits. Carl and John will attend the Welcome Back from Ely on January 20. Lynn Mahlberg reported that we are finding that many students participating in the deferred payment plan are not paying. These are mainly students with a full load. Julie Byrnes will be preparing a full report for Lynn. At this point we have no choice but to purge them. If we purge them we cannot count them in our FTE. It is roughly 30 FTE at this point. There is a hold placed on their account. The $75 reinstatement charge seems not to be an issue with the students. John Rice reported that the Foundation Dinner Dance is scheduled for February 27, 2010. A Foundation Board of Trustee workshop is scheduled for January 14, 2010. Mike McFarlane reported that a request has been made to put a link on the GBC website that goes to a website where students can advertise things. Susanna Dorr has researched the site and likes their format. It would be best if our entire service could utilize something like this. John Albrecht should be consulted to see if there are any legal issues. Mike McFarlane recommended that Presidents Council review the GBC Outage Plan at the next PC meeting.
