Faculty Senate Update Frank Daniels reported he is cooking a turkey for lunch today for the staff in Ely. Frank reported that the faculty senates at the other institutions do not support faculty taking voluntary cuts and that those who did volunteer should be reimbursed. GBC is following exactly what the BOR said to do. It sounds like the three smaller colleges are all taking the cuts, but the universities are not inclined to participate. Carl reported he has different information on the matter. Carl stated he thinks that the universities are looking at increasing the load of tenured faculty by 4.6%. If the total group is over by 4.6% then they figure they have complied with the furlough. UNLV did come out yesterday to say that they will take the cuts as well. Frank reported on other news from Faculty Senate. The Senate meeting went smoothly until the item on what to do with INT 100 came up. One dept was entirely was against it. The presentation was question and answer on what to do. It failed by one vote. We need to determine who does the INT 100: faculty or student services. Mike says we will look into it more closely. Mike was surprised it did not pass because the recommendation came from the department chairs. Classified Council Update Jolina Adams reported that Classified Council met on November 19 for a short meeting. Quite a few more people from Elko attended the meeting. Classified would like to partner with SGA to come up with some student centered activities they can help out with. SGA has been invited to the next Classified meeting. Classified are inquiring if there will be a winter closure this year. Carl was advised by the Chancellor last spring that we should not be doing these creative schedules in lieu of the economic atmosphere. All office should remain open to the public. People can certainly request time off using annual leave by using the regular procedure which has to be approved by their supervisor. The centers will probably be staffed minimally. There will be no complete closures at any center this winter. SGA Update No report. Miscellaneous Carl attended the last meeting of SOL and presented a proclamation to the clubs and organizations for their exceptional work and participation. They have done a great job. Lynn Mahlberg reported the Monday night before finals there will be breakfast at night in Griswold Hall. We have been doing this for fall and spring semester for a few years. Jeff Peters and Diane Wrightman were introduced to Presidents Council. Jeffs last day of training/traveling is today. He is excited to start in Pahrump on Monday. Faculty Senate Chair Frank Daniels welcomed them both. There was a Meet and Greet yesterday for Jeff and Diane. John Rice reported that the foundation executive board will meet tomorrow morning and should approved the contract with the Clements Group. The will be analyzing the colleges fiscal needs. They will prepare a study that the foundation can use to expand its activities in the service area. Carl said it will require us to be active in the process and to work with the public. Mardell Wilkins reported the annual GBC Holiday party is scheduled for December 18. The centers can also host a Holiday party for full time employees. We will pay for the employee up to $20. Carl and the Vice Presidents will be attending the Regents meeting next week.
