The minutes were approved. Textbook Policy Carl Diekhans requested that Academic Standards establish more criteria for the textbook policy. The UNLV statement says they encourage the author not to accept royalties for their books sold to their students. Once Academic Standards can establish criteria similar to that of UNLV, then the policy will be brought back to PC for approval Chancellors Memo, Outreach Projects Carl Diekhans reported we have a month to respond to a request for information from the Chancellor for his budget cut briefs. Each institution must submit a memo summarizing our institutions outreach efforts. The purpose of the budget cut brief is to showcase the positive impact GBC has had on the community. This will actually be good public relations for the college. John Rice will send to PC everything he has so far. The information should also go to the directors of the other campuses. Donation for Relay for Life Mary Gilbertson reported that Classified Council has donated $500 dollars for Relay for Life. They have requested $150 from the Student Nurses Organization. Student Government will match whatever the SNO donates. Members of PC will individually make up the difference for a total of $1,000 from GBC. Classified Council Update Mary Gilbertson reported that nominations for Outstanding Classified are being accepted. They have five nominations so far. A nominating committee has been set up for nomination of officers for next year. Classified will be working with the local US Postal Service on their annual food drive. She will send an email with the details to everyone. Community Service Award Discussion of potential nominations for the GBC community service award. Distinguished Alumni Award Discussion of potential nominations for the distinguished alumni award. Miscellaneous Carl Diekhans reported the institutional mission statements will be reviewed at the April Board of Regents meeting. Carl reported he and the Vice Presidents met to see what could be done on the financial side of the college (with the loss of the Vice President and the Budget Officer). We are exposing ourselves to great financial risk with our key financial positions being vacant. We have some people picking up some of the work, but given these critical times it is apparent that we need to fill a position that we have lost. The budget officer is the better position to replace. Carl has determined that for the colleges best interest we will be conducting a search for a Budget/Human Resources Officer. A hiring committee will be formed immediately. This was a critical decision that needed to be made. Carl reported he received another two requests from the Chancellor on additional budget scenarios. We had to respond on the additional costs of things that may not be covered in the 18.76% reduction. The other request was to address a 5%, 7% and 9% budget cut scenario. Eron Sanchez reported that there is a conference call with Senator Reid and all student government presidents today at 1:00 p.m. He will be participating in this conference call. Cindy Hyslop mentioned that Frank Daniels will start attending the PC meetings in May and that the meetings need to be IAV to Ely. Mardell will get this set up. The next Faculty Senate meeting will be on April 17 and Carl and Mike are invited to attend. Mike McFarlane reported a good strategic planning was held yesterday. The planning committee has come up with four themes: 1. Student success; 2. Planning and performance; 3. Sustainability; and 4. Serving rural Nevada. The committee is in the process of developing goals for the themes. Mike will be soliciting suggestions for consideration from the GBC Advisory Board.
