Enterprise Rental Car Procedures Gim Briggs received a letter from David Martin of Enterprise welcoming GBC to their program and outlining the process of renting vehicles from them. We still need to create an account to charge vehicle rentals and determine how to fund the account. The Vice Presidents need to further discuss where the money is going to come from. Presidents Council approved the policy. Gas charges will still be charged to the gas account. Gas credit cards can still be requested from the Controllers office. Remember the vehicle rentals are on a 24 hour time basis. We are also in the process of getting rid of some vehicles including the busses that are just sitting around. There is also a bus in Pahrump that needs to be on the list. Mac will create an account until we decide how to fund. Policies to Review 2.1 Revisions to Policies and Procedures Cliff Ferry said the most important thing to keep in mind is the importance of changing policies in a timely manner. Anything major would have to come through Presidents Council. We can create a tentative schedule to work from. Presidents Council approved the policy. Miscellaneous Carl Diekhans leaves this afternoon for Pahrump for the meeting with Harry Reid. The land bill has been submitted to the US Senate for the first reading. We are optimistic that there will be action on this bill in the spring. The bill calls for two-hundred eighty acres of BLM land will go to GBC for the Pahrump campus. There is a photo op tomorrow in Pahrump. Carl will conduct some other college business while he is down there. Carl Diekhans reported that the first meeting of the budget taskforce committee was held last Friday. One subcommittee has been selected to look at efficiencies. They will be looking at things we can do to save money overall. We will try to coordinate schedules as best we can. We need full participation from all of the groups. John Rice reported that Regent Dorothy Gallagher and Vice Chancellor Health and Human Services, Dr. Trevisan will be attending Faculty Senate on Friday. The Foundation will be accepting a $50,000 gift from Barrick Goldstrike to the NSHE Health Science system with direction that it be used to supplement health care programs in our area. John commended Barrick Goldstrikes support of the community outside of just their mining programs. Mike McFarlane and Cliff Ferry had the first steering committee meeting of the strategic planning group. They will be collecting information on goals and missions from the departments. A second meeting will be scheduled shortly. Mike McFarlane reported that for the first time every GBC reached1800 FTE within the last week. Eron Sanchez brought a calendar of student events. Red ribbon week is scheduled the week of October 20. The only televised Derby/Heller debate will take place on October 20 in the GBC Theater. SGA has been working on educating the students about what is going on with the budget. SGA has a forum scheduled for next month to talk about the budget issues. Lynn Mahlberg commended SGA Housing and Student Life on all of the successful activities that they have scheduled. The students are participating in record numbers this year. Lynn Mahlberg and John Rice will be attending the WICHE Non-traditional No More grant in Colorado this week. We have over 600 non-traditional students whom we have identified. We are hoping to put the group into cohorts to facilitate completion rates among this group. Most of our programs are aimed at non-traditional; that is where our strengths have been. Only three states have been chosen to participate in this WICHE study (Nevada, Arkansas and Colorado). Annie Ulrich reported that Classified Council will not be hosting the Chili-Cook Off this year. They will be working with the SGA for the Thanksgiving food drive. Lynn Mahlberg announced the Crisis Intervention Team is putting on a stress reliever day on November 18 in the Community Center. They will be giving helpful tips to reduce stress in the workplace. Cliff Ferry reported at the last State Board of Education meeting Nevada State College wants to disassociate itself from the charter school which would possible affect the FTE that we received from classes that GBC provides via distance ed. The State Board of Education approved a new charter school for gifted and talented students in Elko. The new charter school will be for grades 2-8. Carl Diekhans requested from the Vice Presidents their departments accomplishments for the first six months under Paul Killpatrick. Carl has to submit a report on the calendar year accomplishments to the Chancellor by January.
