Eligibility Services for Students with Disabilities Julie Byrnes reported that guidelines for eligibility services for students with disabilities have been standardized across the state. We have to be able to show that we are accommodating students with disabilities. Our eligibility statement is in compliance with the law. The intake form is part of a tracking system that was developed. Documentation guidelines that we follow are consistent with the state. Each student will be considered on an individual basis. Documentation can be supplemented by interview which gives us some flexibility. The final accommodation request form is new. The new form lists the accommodation and the justification. Julie sends a memo to the faculty member informing them that a student has requested accommodations. The student must meet with each faculty member at the beginning of the semester to work out any details for the accommodations. If the student refuses accommodations put on the memo that the student is refusing or what is agreed upon and then both faculty member and student signs the memo. At that point the accommodations will become official. Approval process enables us to document what is going on and be in compliance with the law. Julie will be preparing a handbook for faculty that will be available on the website. We still need a policy for service animals and attendance accommodation. Hanging Posters in EIT Building John Rice and Lisa Heise introduced the idea of drafting a policy on the posting of notices. During a visit to College of Southern Idaho (CSI) last fall John noticed that CSI had one inch wide strips of cork at strategic places around campus for posting notices. They are tidy and located at central areas. Nothing was taped to the walls. The other thing that Lisa wanted to bring up was keeping the windows in the new EIT building opened so that the interior is lit the way it was intended. She also brought up a concern about blocking the interior office windows. We are at an age where people should not be behind closed doors. This is an issue that needs to be addressed by the facilities committee. The two issues are the bulletin boards for hanging posters and blocking the windows. Future of Agency Vehicles Bill Reinhard was asked to look at some data to determine the future of using agency vehicles at GBC. He has taken a look at this issue. There are a few possibilities that we can pursue. We can run a prototype where we use rentals for the longer trips and use our fleet for local trips. We would have to check the availability of rentals. We can consider reducing our fleet and trade two or three vehicles in for one good fleet vehicle. Carl asked Bill to look at what we need in our fleet. We would probably need one or two rentals per week made available to us. People can still use their own vehicle. Presidents Council recommended that each area figure out how many trips to Pahrump we had last year with total days gone. Then we can determine how much it would have been to rent a car for those days so we can compare the numbers. Then we can talk about it and coordinate opinions. Policies to Review 5.41 Release of Employee Information Cliff Ferry said the Presidents Council approved this policy about a month ago, but the attorney suggested some changes which Lucina Lewis has reviewed. Presidents Council approved. Miscellaneous Carl Diekhans reported he will be attending the Special Board of Regents meeting on August 21. The meeting will focus on the budget. Carl and Bill Reinhard will be attending a Capital Improvement Projects meeting on August 26 with the Public Works department. Bill will prepare a five minute presentation to touch on the welding shop expansion and Pahrump. Julie Byrnes reported that we need to approve the project charter for the iNtegrate project. The first step in the implementation of iNtegrate is the project charter. Carl wants to talk to Western Nevada College before we approve. We also need to meet with Robyn Render before giving the final approval. Julie said the campus community piece has been moved back to September. The system is being mapped out now. When that is finalized then you have to load it. The terms will be set this fall. Carl stated the Board of Regents approved the use of some of the technology fee for iNtegrate. The Regents talked about maybe implementing another $2 tech fee for iNtegrate. The students would have to be a part of this decision. The purge process discussed at the last Presidents Council meeting was approved. Cindy Hyslop mentioned that UNLV is looking at the tenure process and evaluations. They are currently using the two-tiered step. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the Regents Student Affairs Committee is putting together definitions on capital improvement fees. The Regents want to see how we are using these fees. We are currently using an 80/20 split with 80% going to needs and 20% going to non-needs. Eron Sanchez requested that any information that needs to be disseminated to the SGA can be done so by using the Groupwise GBC-SGA email list. He asked that we send any important information that pertains to the students to this contact group. Eron Sanchez reported that SGA wants to help in this time of budget restrictions. To this end the SGA will start paying for their own gas, paper supplies, and printing services using SGA accounts. Annie Ulrich is attending a union meeting tonight. She is interested in finding out about the buyouts and layoffs at other institutions and how the union is involved with the process. She feels it is everyones responsibility to get the facts themselves and look at things realistically. Carl Diekhans stated that there were two major issues at the Board of Regents meeting last week: the UNR Fire Science Academy and the terminated UNR professor. The budget is an emotionally charged issue.
