Emergency Notification Systems Webinar Pat Anderson was charged with finding an effective emergency notification system. She arranged for Presidents Council to participate in a webinar conducted by Connect-Ed entitled: Timely and Effective Campus Communication. Anessa Alderman, Regional Sales Manager for Connect-Ed conducted the webinar. Connect-Ed is a Blackboard product and can be used for other communications besides emergency communication. The system integrates and strengthens what we already have. Mass notification services can: Manage time-sensitive communication; support student services/enrollment management; Multi-modal communication is important using the voice of your leadership. Mass communication is a three step process: 1. create a message; 2. select recipients; 3. sends the message to tens of thousands in minutes. Entirely hosted off-site. Seven-year history; proven and reliable. Emergency response and communication, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, enrollment management. This will be a product that will be fully integrated with the Blackboard products in approximately 3 years. There are no limits on the number of communications/calls/emails etc. The fee for the system is $2,500 for training and implementation; then $2/head for employees and students. We could possibly partner with another community college in the state to reduce the cost per/head cost to $1.80/head. The system allows up to 6 phone numbers, 2 email addresses, and 1 SMS address per person. It offers 24/7 customer service. For more information the website is HYPERLINK "http://www.blackboard.com/products/connect/ConnectED" www.blackboard.com/products/connect/ConnectED, or email questions to HYPERLINK "mailto:aalderman@blackboard.com" aalderman@blackboard.com. Pat says that she has already built some funds into her budget that could pay for a communications system from soft money. It is a lot of money, but we can use the system for a variety of things. She is also looking at putting new call boxes in all of the buildings. This is one of the better options that Pat has identified, but she will still look at other companies offering this service. Campus Event Request for July 4, 2008 Pat Anderson and John Rice met with Terry Hritz at KENV about his request to hold a barbeque on campus on July 4, and then invite the participants to stay to watch the fireworks afterwards. July 4 is a holiday and security staff would have to be paid at double time. It may also deter people from going to the fairgrounds to watch the fireworks. Presidents Council recommended denying the request. Christmas in the Night-time Sky is scheduled for December 6, 2008. It is good public relations for the college, but again, there is a fair amount of overtime for the security staff. There has also been concern about shooting off the fireworks from the roof of Lundberg Hall because SCS is located there. We have limited areas to be able to do the fireworks. We should defer making a decision until the next Presidents Council meeting when John Rice will be here. Sabbatical Leave Policy Ed Nickel presented the Sabbatical Leave Policy that included the two minor changes that Presidents Council recommended. The points to be considered for sabbatical leave were increased to 45. Presidents Council approved the policy. Mardell and Cliff will put the procedure into format for the GBC Policy and Procedures. C.L.A.S.S. Recipients for February and March Lynn Mahlberg reported that Stacie Potter, Joann Delsarto, and Lynn Owens were the C.L.A.S.S. recipients for February. The C.L.A.S.S recipient for March was Betty Richardson. Miscellaneous Paul personally thanked Ed Nickel for the letter that he composed and read to the Faculty Senate last week. A number of people have commented that we should live up to the GBC Mission Statement and treat everyone with respect and dignity. Mike McFarlane brought up an earlier discussion about training for department chairs. He strongly recommends training for department chairs especially on personnel issues.
