Housing Update Stacie Potter provided a housing update. Some great things have been implemented this year which are keeping the students on campus. A COLORS training has been ongoing. True COLORS teaches people to discover their greatest strengths and understand the strengths of others. Every Tuesday evening is the Student Union Night (SUN) in Caf X chicken wings 3 for $1. Housing wants to put on a talent show the last Tuesday of this month (November 27) at 7 pm in the theater. Other training in the works is the FISH philosophy which offers fresh inspiration through a blend of curriculum and consulting to help us all feel more alive and engaged in the work we do. Stacie reported that Griswold is almost full with twenty-six rooms being occupied out of twenty-seven. All of the eighteen family units in housing are occupied. All thirty apartments are occupied. There are currently eight rooms available for rent. We have thirteen people on the waiting list for spring. She is hoping for the middle of Griswold to be remodeled for next fall. Stacie would like to see the new wing be a seniors wing for more dedicated or older students. Presidents Council would like to commend Stacie for the excellent job she is doing with housing. Accreditation Update Mike McFarlane stated we are on schedule to this point. We are starting to get to the point that some people are not submitting information like they should. We need to ensure everyone provides the information that is being requested from them so that we can stay on task. We really need a college-wide assessment plan. We have a strategic plan and should have an assessment plan that gauges the progress of the strategic plan. It might be why we are struggling in some areas of the accreditation right now. Policies & Procedures- Emeritus Policy Wording from the NSHE code was added with no change to meaning. Presidents Council approved. Miscellaneous The Career Center hosted a career health fair yesterday which was very successful. They had fourteen vendors from Elko, Reno, Battle Mountain, and Idaho. There is no place in Reno that conducts ultrasound certification. When our ultrasound certification program gets up and running we can provide ultrasound certifications for people who have their radiology tech degree from all over the state. Mike McFarlane reported we will be teaching dual credit mechanics at the high school in Battle Mountain after the Thanksgiving holiday. The mines are funding it through the high school. We will have fifteen full-time students in this particular program. Mike McFarlane reported that we will start the online medical transcription program next semester. All classes in this program will be completely online. Ed Nickel reported some faculty are concerned that internet enrollment is such a huge part of our enrollment. Faculty are upset with the problems we have been encountering with WEBCAMPUS. Mike has talked to a lot of faculty and agrees that there is a core group with concerns. We are currently gathering all of the information to present to the Blackboard people. WEBCAMPUS is the name NSHE uses for all the online material. We use Blackboard CE 6 for our online system. Once we have the consolidated list of problems, we need to get a Blackboard person here to listen to our concerns. Lynn says that student services will be calling every student who has withdrawn from WEBCAMPUS classes. Faculty feel that they are being blamed for the problems. SCS is supporting GBC as best they can with the WEBCAMPUS problems. Bill Reinhard said that technology should be tested and proven worthy by a small test group before college-wide implementation. Bill Reinhard would like to investigate the feasibility of revamping a rodeo club to increase our FTE. He will report his findings to Presidents Council. (289:, - . < ?
