Accreditation Update Mike McFarlane reported that he is continuing to gather data for the accreditation report. A meeting is planned today to go over the needs of each subcommittee. Progress is being made in the assessment area. Emeritus Policy from Personnel Committee Ed Nickel presented the emeritus policy approved by faculty senate. Presidents Council made some minor changes to the wording. Presidents Council approved the Emeritus Policy. Cliff Ferry will format the policy to put onto the website. Policies & Procedures- 3.1 Guidelines for Creating Academic Calendars The GBC orientations were taken off of the calendar as well as the Live and Learn sessions. Presidents Council approved the policy with the changes. 4.23 Crisis Communication Plan The policy shows that we are addressing the fundamental parts of security. Fire alarms testing will be done randomly. Fire drills have not occurred in a while. Pat Anderson is working on a schedule for fire drills. PC would like Pat Anderson to update PC on the fire drill schedule and procedure. PC needs to be assured that the outreach centers are conducting fire drills as well. Presidents Council approved the crisis communication plan with minor changes. Miscellaneous Paul would like to implement an institutional calendar that has due dates for tenure applications, sabbatical applications, Regents awards nominations, emeritus status applications, evaluation deadlines, academic calendar due dates, etc. We can have Jeannie Long put the final calendar onto the website. Perhaps Susanna Dorr can create a program using calendar math to put onto the website using Labor Day and New Years Day as anchor dates. Lynn Mahlberg announced that Amber Overholser has accepted the retention coordinator position and will begin on November 5, 2007. John Rice said that the foundation will start the search for the foundation services coordinator immediately. Lynn Mahlberg will be conducting a sexual harassment training class tomorrow in Winnemucca. Lynn Mahlberg reminded everyone that the deadline for nominations for the Regents Scholar Award is November 15. Lynn Mahlberg reported that another student satisfaction survey will be conducted with a random sample of fifty classes. We also want to conduct a faculty and staff survey of the services GBC provide. PC discussed doing a climate survey with Human Resources conducting the survey. Perhaps the NFA could pitch in with the cost, because originally they wanted to do the survey. Lynn Mahlberg discussed the Career Fair in Pahrump on December 5. It will be the first Career Fair held in Pahrump. The Pahrump Town Hall meeting should be scheduled for December 4. Mardell will work with Bob Lurker to make the arrangements. Mike McFarlane reported that based on the recommendation of the evaluation committee, GBC will be utilizing the IDEA survey for the student ratings of classes and instructors. We will not have 100% utilization this semester because evaluations have already been conducted. There will be a different version with the online classes. The new evaluation process will be valuable to the college. It is an external process which will free up a tremendous amount of time that support staff spends on the evaluations. The administrators of the system will know who has not filled out the evaluations and be able to contact them to remind them to complete the evaluation. The new evaluation process will cost GBC about $5,000 per semester. The external administrators will also be able to prepare reports for us. The new procedure will have a faculty information form that faculty will use to rate what they feel is important in the class. Mike McFarlane reported that interviews for the continuing education position are being held tomorrow. Mike McFarlane reported that our enrollments are up by 2.8%.
