Accreditation Update Mike McFarlane reported that subcommittees have been created to address the nine standards. The subcommittees will consist of members of the steering committee. The focus of the subcommittees should be to address changes that have been made in programs and services in each of the standards in the past five years. Cliff Ferry would like to sit on the mission statement subcommittee. Each area has until October 16 to submit their 2007-2008 action plans. Cliff submitted an example of the format for the annual action plans. Cliff is in the process of evaluating the surveys done during the past five years. Cliff also reported that Mardell will start uploading the GBC policies and procedures to the website starting next week. Red Hot, Rural and Ready Conference Paul Killpatrick, Lynn Mahlberg and John Rice attended the Red Hot, Rural and Ready Conference put on by the Rural Community College Alliance in Albuquerque, New Mexico last month. John thought it was a very valuable conference. One session he attended was hosted by Austin Community College (ACC) in Texas which serves many rural communities with first generation students. Every high school graduate in their service area receives an acceptance letter from ACC. The students have already taken all tests and completed financial aid applications. The only step left is to register for the classes. GBC is pretty close to this model already. John also attended a session on the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). The AQIP accreditation is an ongoing process rather than peak process. The process changes the dynamics of the accreditation process to be more action orientated. It requires a more institutional view of everything every area addresses every point. The biggest challenge would be to transition to this type of accreditation process. Lynn Mahlberg attended a session on building college towns. GBC was prime example of the session although we were not named. She also attended a session on achieving the dream strategies that colleges are using to overcome long-held views and practices that inhibit student success. There were many other sessions on subjects such as obtaining grants, Native American economic enterprises, fundraising, and marketing via e-communications. Paul Killpatrick attended a session rural community colleges and economic development. A recommendation was made that GBC become of member of this alliance. Recruitment - Tammy Robinson updated Presidents Council on the marketing and recruitment efforts in Pahrump. She is working on promoting GBC as Pahrumps hometown college. It is important that we become a member of that community. Tammy and Bob Lurker attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Pahrump a couple of weeks ago. It is also important to support and attend community events. We need to emphasis over and over again that GBC has made a commitment to the community. Bob Lurker is chair of the Pahrump Valley Community Action Team. Ed Nickel said that community leaders seem to want the opportunity for higher education in their community. Tammy said that the Pahrump market is in the new phase of marketing and needs a different approach. It is a good idea for Tammy to occasionally update Presidents Council on her efforts in Pahrump. Miscellaneous Julie Byrnes updated Presidents Council on the NSHE student vendor gaps for iNtegrate project. The system will be unable to put security incident notes in a secured area. The incident reports can be entered, tracked, and secured using the comments function, but there are concerns about how secure that will be. The system will be unable to interface with career service system which to us is a critical function. The system will be unable to interface with the student health system and cannot work with other systems. The system will be unable to interface with the student housing system and cannot work with other systems. In Julies opinion, the systems inability to interface with other systems creates serious problems. Bill Reinhard suggested that the system is doable, it will just take more time and money. Lynn Mahlberg announced that the Senior Round Table will be this Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. There will be over 600 area high school seniors here to tour the campus and attend workshops. Ed Nickel reported that the faculty senate chairs are drafting a response to Regent Whipple about the iNtegrate project. It is the chairs opinion that the project needs to be a campus directed structure with SCS providing a technical support role. Bill Reinhard stated there is hope for the iNtegrate project. Over seventy candidates have applied for Integrate project manager position. One of the criteria is to hold certification of project manager professional. All the business managers will review the applications with selection for interviews in the next week or two. John Rice reported that the Foundation is receiving submissions for photo essay project for the Employee Campaign. John has been working on the success stories from faculty. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the Deputy Attorney General, George Taylor, will be conducting an Open Meeting Law Workshop this afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The next College Council meeting is this Friday at 9:00 a.m. (789GRab6 7 8 F M N O ] # ] e ) * + 2 3 N a g p z 6 žठh>0hkh *i hk>* h3>*hu?hc'hSh`hP4 hP4>* h`>* h5"h5" h5"hJ"A h)>* hd6hd6h-(hLh>h+Ph]hd6hg1hvlWh3h)4(897 8 * + vw12#^gdL^gdn & F ^`gdd6gdd6 `^``gdd6$a$gd)IJ(;@]^bcm -8uvw|& 0127CLV[ 칵찫hGh *ih>h5" hG>* h3>*h%/hLh` h`h9ohLh9o>*hLhn>*hMhh(:hu?h3hnhCh!gh>0h/= 8An9FGHTUV]q!"$123 hij*,/ÿû÷h-h61h?lhh"Ch) h>hUhPhy hy>*h5"hbhch/hzJhhF 7hSh$ hGh%/A#$23ij+,%&mn & F gd]gdP & F ^`gdd6gdd6$&*CMQdeip|%)EHTls#hyjhyUh?lh)Jnhebhqh]h%|h-hE3621h:p2v/ =!"#$% @@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DAD Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k@(No ListHH Y Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJ4@4 ;Header !4 @4 ;Footer !$L@$ g1Date .(8978*+vw1 2 #$23ij+,%&mn00000000 00 00 00000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0@000@000@000@00000 #@ @ 0( B S ?H0( ?;?dT?4?O5?\?f ~~ 9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsState8*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagstime=*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceName=*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags PlaceType9*urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttagsplace ,”$1$1GRabIJ]^bc0 0 7 C L V [ $$%)EHTls#$1 u08P$HH/x%ǒT^2~AtuE ZzG(fMD^Ndq nhQxB1q]p@h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.hpp^p`56OJQJo(hHh ^`hH.h d d ^d `hH.h ^ `56hH.h PP^P`hH.h L ^ `LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h pLp^p`LhH.h @ @ ^@ `hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH. hh^h`hH) ^`hH) 88^8`hH) ^`hH() ^`hH() pp^p`hH() ^ `hH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^ `hH.h^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHohpp^p`OJQJo(hHh@ @ ^@ `OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHohPP^P`OJQJo(hHhpp^p`OJQJo(hHh@ @ ^@ `OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHhPP^P`OJQJo(hHh ^ `OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh ^`hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h @ @ ^@ `hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH. uT^2q nhP$B1quE/x% fMZzG @*5 5Z*9Z 0,6P4d vIR</ o ' a c>{]JL)xq~Ucs#%/qSX2~W79od6G_33hku) 0 5"q5#f#%#'&]'c'-(K)p):*ag+,,`q,F-Af-./8"/H^/je/00&1g1{/2<#3.>3J3L4M4a4255\5q6d6F 77YH89D:(:;;;.w=?rX?q?J"A B"C8CYDicD&EwJEpFrFo"G9H|iHxI3JFyJzJgL$L PJPKcPnPtP> S5SdJTUzUoVvlWdX\XxzX3)Y{4YoYuZy]^E^f^_ n_Y `=bTc^c`cee 4fRfg!g#gw4g@h=th *i8i9i[ijk6k?lnl:1m)Jn.3pYp,q8q9qisFuBx3x?z?{;p{ |%| };}~%~)~5~VL~P~Sp[G8rv1 iEq@V]`Jpy/S`_UALy;#-h+P@RD~H("H02v7@Z{jCFSGT!uXvxz'm~K\+uZ|.cT32=u?GfQ4dJGN8 (\#]$tP|nY$P"_A('>Y--ձʼEɱ7b)$)SDY%c'2$Xh"U# zy_RzSnYME3bDGpT8NV0'Dj!HCx; ps p}\c/8 +NRjD |ebEe:f^hq< 08_8JO1WeW^q83Ps)`*61!5kXGqFz$ 8&Ng5QkYerk@$$$$@UnknownGz Times New Roman5Symbol3& z Arial5& zaTahoma?5 z Courier New;Wingdings"1hºfºf{&G 'G '!4d 2QHX ?)2GREAT BASIN COLLEGEGBC UserGBC0 Oh+'0 @ L X dpxGREAT BASIN COLLEGE GBC User Normal.dotGBC2Microsoft Office Word@@ͯx@b@bG՜.+,0 hp| GBC' GREAT BASIN COLLEGE Title !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:<=>?@ABDEFGHIJMRoot Entry F cOData 1Table 5WordDocument4.SummaryInformation(;DocumentSummaryInformation8CCompObjq FMicrosoft Office Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.89q
