BAS Graduate Wall of Honor Carl Diekhans reported that Jay Larson would like to create a wall of honor for the BAS student of the year. Presidents Council was concerned that this would create a precedent. If we do this for one program, then we must do it for all programs, including the associate programs. Names on a plaque would be more reasonable. Acknowledging students is great, but we do not want to create a hierarchy. We already have the name on a plaque in the community center. The GBC Distinguished Alumni would be different their picture will be placed in the Community Center. Jazz Festival It was brought to the attention of Presidents Council that the background checks for the chaperones for the jazz festival this summer have not yet been completed. Per the agreement with Great Basin Jazz Camp this needed to be completed by now. There will not be enough time to complete these background checks before the event. Another concern is the young age of the chaperones for the dorms they are in their late teens. We cannot have high school students who have just graduated chaperoning the kids. It appears that the agreement needs to be cancelled because terms have not been met. Accreditation Update no report. Miscellaneous John Rice reported that Atlas Copco donated $2,500 to the college as part of the Chancellors match. John also reported that the foundations annual audit will begin in July. Paul Killpatrick attended the international Rotary meeting in Salt Lake City last week. The next international Rotary meeting will be in Seoul, Korea. Mike McFarlane reported that the Academic Affairs Council approved the new Associate of Applied Science in Human Services program. The new program will go to the Board of Regents in August. Mardell Wilkins reminded Presidents Council that the Elko Area Chamber of Commerce is having their annual fundraising dinner/auction on July 28. ɫ will be providing a gift basket to be auctioned at the fundraiser. Paul Killpatrick and Bill Reinhard will be going to Las Vegas tomorrow to meet with union representatives to discuss an apprenticeship training program. Carl Diekhans reported that starting July 1 the NSHE system will be using the federal rate for per diem. Our per diems will almost double, but there will be no additional money in the budget to cover the increased expenses. The support staff will go to a website to look up per diem rates for each city. The website will give you hotels and per diem rates for a particular city. The Controllers Office will put out an announcement with these changes. Carl reported that the cell phones changes were not discussed at the business meetings. Eventually, employees will be charged a monthly fee for using the cell phone. (/567y . 1 > ? M X b J .
