Professional Non-Teaching Salary Schedule Committee Carl Diekhans recommended that the Professional Non-Teaching Salary Schedule Committee be reconstituted. Star Thomson and Garry Heberer will be directed to call a meeting with all non-teaching administrative faculty to select a committee of their peers. The committee would need equal representation. The committee would need to look at creating a policy on how to move within the range of existing salary range and grant-in aid issues. Correction to a PC Meeting Minutes Carl Diekhans provided a clarification to the November 16, 2005 Presidents Council meeting. Item # 4, Sick Leave for Professional Employees should read: Professional staff can accumulate up to twenty-four additional sick days above the ninety-six day maximum. The additional sick days do not carry over into a new year and must be used in the year they were accrued. The additional sick days would help when someone has a catastrophic illness. The November 16 minutes will be revised and placed on the GBC website. Chancellors 2006 Goals Paul Killpatrick reported that Chancellor Rogers has created some new goals that he would like all of the college presidents to implement for 2006. These are: Participate in establishing the Nevada Stars Program. Adopt results oriented decision making. Assure cost reduction and shrinkage of management. Raise the productivity and efficiency of your institution. Guarantee seamless transfers between institutions. Pledge sufficient resources in advising and mentoring. Improve retention and graduation rates. Ensure better minority representation. Establish a method for implementing the Adopt-A-School Program. Dr. Killpatrick asked that Presidents Council review the goals so that we can implement those goals that we can. Pahrump Discussion Paul Killpatrick stated that the Pahrump discussion is ongoing. GBC will propose that its service area include all of Nye County. He said the Memos of Understanding will be very detailed. Miscellaneous Dr. Killpatrick reported that he attended a Council of Presidents meeting in Las Vegas to discuss the budget. GBC was commended on our thematic approach to our budget. The system would like all the institutions to put their budget requests into three different categories using the thematic approach. The Tabor initiative was also discussed. The Tabor initiative could negatively affect how much money we received from the state using the formula funding method. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the new student orientations have been scheduled for January 13, January 17, and January 21. Dr. Killpatrick and Lynn have welcomed students in the past. If anyone in PC would like to welcome the students please let Lynn know. The student orientation is a wonderful opportunity to meet the new students. Lynn Mahlberg reported that the Midnight Breakfast had between 45-50 students who came to visit and eat. Diamond Aviles of H.A.B.I.T.A.T. is to be commended. Lynn also thanked everyone on campus who participated in the Secret Santa. Lynn Mahlberg reminded everyone about the College Goal Sunday on January 29, 2006. Carl Diekhans informed PC that after January 1, 2006 we can start accumulating comp time for the 2006 Winter Closure. Carl Diekhans reported that the table and credenza in BHCR will be removed to be refinished in a darker wood stain. Presidents Council recommends that we put the BHCR remodel project on hold until sometime in January. They would like to entertain other design ideas. Bellas Interior will be notified. Dorinda Friez will notify the committee that we want to entertain other ideas from other people in town. Danny Gonzales reported that there will be a meeting this week with Student Services to discuss intramural sports. Mike McFarlane stated that Bret Murphy, Danny Gonzales and Mike McFarlane went to Butte, Montana last week to look at an underground training facility. They are more optimistic about the possibility of having an underground miner training facility here after visiting Butte. An instructor from Butte has been invited to GBC as a consultant to look at our situation. Mike McFarlane reported that we have filled the CADD position, Social Work position and Instructional Developer position. The Diesel and Nursing positions are still open. He also reported that Pauline Fisher will be retiring at the end of this month. Dr. Killpatrick reported that there will be a Campus Budget meeting on January 17, 2006. GBC administration will be meeting with NSHE reps about budget requests for the next biennium. )4:<, - . a b d q r c ?
