The annual food drive that classified organizes each November ended on Monday. They delivered ten boxes of food and some cash to the Committee against Domestic Violence. Faculty Senate Update No report. Grants Update - Jeannie Rosenthal presented a grants update. GBC currently has $1.4 million in grants which is up from approximately $700,000 when she started as Grants Manager four years ago. The biggest grants are the Perkins Leadership (FY 2007) from the Nevada Department of Education for $241,981 and the Adult Basic Education/ESL (FY 2007) for $309,664. GBC gets indirect costs for both of these grants by way of the grants funding positions. The Nevada Department of Education finds that GBC is doing an excellent job with the Perkins Leadership funds. Jeannie updated Presidents Council on the Utah Repertory Dance Theater being hosted by the ICE committee and funded through the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The group will be in Winnemucca on February 24 and in Elko on February 26 and 27, 2007. The GBC Theater may not be big enough, but she is still looking into that. The Silver Stage Players will have props and equipment on set during this time. We may have to scale down or do a partnership with the Convention Center. Carl Diekhans said they have to name GBC as co-insured on their insurance policy to have on file prior to them coming. Jeannie requested help from anyone interested to help organize events while the group is here. The dancers can go to the schools, but we would like to get the kids on campus. We can possibly invite the Nevada Youth Training Center students. We would also like the Boys & Girls Club to participate. GBC is responsible for supplying accommodations and the live music. We can charge admission for the performance and get the rooms donated. Jeannie heard last week the Title III may not be having another funding round this year and will be working from the last list. She will find out for sure and report back Jeannie reported that GBC is currently in the process of purchasing IAV equipment for rooms at WNCC, TMCC, and GBC through the Industrial Energy Efficiency Grant. Miscellaneous Paul Killpatrick reported that the Chancellor will be in Elko for a round table meeting on Monday, December 4 in GTA 130 at 11:00 a.m. John Rice reported that Christmas in the Nighttime Sky will be held on campus (for the first time) this Saturday. The Community Center will be the only building open to the public. The Foundation staff will be on hand. John Rice distributed a copy of a news article about the Chancellors State of the System address pushing the need for private partnerships in regards to education, something GBC is already doing successfully. Mike McFarlane asked if the Pahrump land deal was on the Board of Regents agenda. Paul indicated that it is not. We can proceed with the application to the Bureau of Land Management. Paul will meet with individuals in Pahrump on November 29 to discuss the status of the land acquisition application. The Board of Regents will be on the applications. Presidents Council recommended we be more involved with preparing the application, not just the folks down in Pahrump. Also, we must ensure that Mark Ghan is involved with the application process. Mike McFarlane reported that we have hired someone for the biology position in Pahrump; Dean Vickers will be starting in January. He also reported that Wyoming Rossett has accepted the broadcast technology position in Elko. Carl Diekhans reported that we need to reschedule an open house for the Wendover facility sometime before the spring semester starts. He will have Garry Heberer coordinate.
