The Schedule John Rice reported that a set date that the schedule goes to the printer has not been determined. Presidents Council determined that the schedule should arrive in homes the week of April 19. Registration will begin a month earlier for online registration. We may want to consider two mailings: one in April and another in July, which is a practice at many institutions. The distribution of the schedule is to students who have taken classes at GBC in the past two years. If GBC takes over the Pahrump area, we may want to consider sending the schedule to every household in that area. Presidents Council agreed to give Career Focus another year to gauge its success. There are more than a few things to think about when we factor Pahrump into the picture. Garry Heberer suggests for this fall that we prepare the schedule for our service area and then have a separate mailing to Pahrump later. We would need to send the schedule to all households in Pahrump for several years to gain an identity. Joyce Shaw reported that the current schedule costs $11,000 for printing and $5,000 to mail. We may want to consider a slimmer schedule for the second mailing. Dr. Killpatrick would like to make a final decision next week. John Rice will explore options with the center director of the Pahrump campus. Faculty advisement must be ironed out so that they are available during the summer. If we are going to have open enrollment, you need to have advisors here to consult with students when necessary. March 1, 2006 is the deadline for all course additions, deletions, and changes to appear in the April mailing of the Fall Course Schedule. The changes could appear in a July mailing. March 17, 2006 the schedule will be posted to website. March 20, 2006 registration begins. April 19, 2006 the schedule will be mailed. Linda Uhlenkott stated she is concerned about peoples access to a computer for online registration. Grant Update Jeannie Rosenthal brought back a proposed grant and projects go/no go decision making worksheet. Presidents Council discussed the worksheet and the process. They suggested having a forum to establish priorities in going after grants. The process will not preclude a grant from happening but just enables us to make a better decision on what grants to pursue. Jeannie is still working on a flowchart. Of most importance is determining who will be the principal investigator, determining budgets and reassigned time. Jeannie reported that GBC did not receive funding for the Child Care Access Means Parents in School grant (CCAMPIS) for next year. The funding we have now will go through next year and then will end. Jeannie reported on a Fulbright Scholar grant opportunity: a three to six week program designed to open up dialog about Muslim issues around the world by bringing a Muslim to GBC to help develop programs. The grant pays for transportation but the host campus has to cover lodging and food. Residency would start in fall 2006. Mike McFarlane should be part of the discussions. Jeannie met with Garry Heberer to brainstorm about how to use Title III to improve our infrastructure because of the Pahrump. She is still not sure when the deadline is for submittal. Jeannie reported that Gretchen Skivington applied for and received a $1,800 grant to host a foreign film festival. The grant pays for the films, and GBC would have to promote the event. The film festival will probably be in the spring. Miscellaneous A discussion on Pahrump among faculty has been scheduled by Linda Uhlenkott. She asked that no administrators attend. John Rice reported that the Career Focus has been submitted for printing. He has been working with Bret Murphy and Joe Royer to create video for the technical programs. Linda Uhlenkott provided a Faculty Senate update. Faculty Senate approved INT waiver language that states, That judgment (to waiver or not) will be made by GBCs Academic Standards Committee and the departments involved and forwarded to the Faculty Senate for approval. Faculty Senate approved Common Course numbering changes, new courses, a revision of the BAIPS program, and a checklist for course submission form. Faculty Senate approved the Intellectual and Cultural Enrichment Committee as an ad hoc committee.
