Pahrump Paul Killpatrick stated that he and Dorothy Gallagher will be attending Faculty Senate on October 21 to update the faculty on the Pahrump discussions. He stated that we are still waiting for money figures. Dr. Killpatrick is talking to Nevada State College to iron out who will be offering the baccalaureate degrees to Pahrump. GBC wants to offer our baccalaureate degrees. Many issues still need to be resolved. Winnemucca Update Carl Diekhans reported that Dr. Killpatrick, Garry Heberer and he attended a meeting in Winnemucca last night to discuss the Winnemucca Performing Arts Center. Also present at the meeting were community members and the Northern Nevada Arts Council. The community members presented a plan to raise five to seven million dollars to build an auditorium for performances. They wanted to put it by the college but there is not enough space on the campus. The school district has some land close by. They are going back to Reynolds one more time and understand that GBC and the GBC Foundation cannot be a party on the application. Grant Update Jeannie Rosenthal talked to Presidents Council about the benefit of having a strategic plan when applying for grants. The current policy for the grant process is not detailed enough; there are ways to facilitate the grant process. The principal investigator should help with the content, and sometimes that does not happen. A grant writing workshop would help. We must ensure that the grant fits the colleges mission to move the college forward. Also the timeline for grant submission should be considered. Having two weeks to prepare a proposal it not enough time. She provided examples of how other institutes do their grant process. Jeannie thinks that department chairs and Vice Presidents must sign off before proceeding with the grant process. Jeannie will modify the examples of the grant process and bring back to PC next week. Miscellaneous Linda Uhlenkott reported that the Domestic Partner proposal was discussed at the executive committee. Lynn Mahlberg reported that this Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Student Services will be conducting a teleconference customer service training opportunity for building exceptional service. There has been much interest. Also Thursday, SGA will be hosting Bethany Owens at 7 p.m. in the Theater. Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Lisa Heise reported that the employee campaign wrapped up last Friday and was happy to report that PC had almost 100% participation. Participation was great, and people still have the opportunity give even though the campaign has ended. The Foundation received $20,000 in pledges and contributions. Lisa Heise talked about funding of various aspects of the ABE/ESL program including trying to find some funding so that we can count the FTE generated from these courses. We need a global approach for access and opportunity. Pooling all the resources makes more sense. Danny Gonzales reported that Cliff Ferry will help with strategic planning and program reviews for the technical programs this next year. The Holiday Planning Committee met for the first time to start planning the GBC Holiday Party. The party is scheduled for December 9, 2005 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Terrace.
