Pahrump Linda Uhlenkott stated that there are pertinent questions that faculty are asking that probably need to be addressed. Linda will send an email to faculty requesting that they send questions to John Rice by the end of the month. John will collect and categorize them so that there is some organized way to discuss the issues. GBC will be requesting information such as general education requirements, differences in the degrees, developmental programs, and numbers of students who are working on a program. Spring Schedule Linda Uhlenkott posed the question as to why the schedule is going out in November and not October. John Rice stated that the print date is the same date that was originally agreed upon. Well try to get them back as quickly as possible to get them out. Linda stated its important to get the schedules out as quickly as possible because not everybody has a computer at home. Perhaps in the future we need to reconsider having department advertisement in the schedule and use the schedule as a registration tool, not a marketing tool. This would eliminate a great deal of proofing. Surveillance Policy Carl Diekhans reported that GBCs legal counsel, Mark Ghan, has reviewed the proposed policy on the Use and Installation of Audio or Video Surveillance Equipment. The policy is consistent with state law on the subject of surveillance on campus, and no changes were necessary. Presidents Council approved the policy. Fax Lines/Copiers/Large Network Printers Carl Diekhans wanted to remind everyone that the policy has been to get approval from his office first before purchasing fax lines, copiers, and large network printers. We generally can only provide these types of equipment in central locations so that everyone has access. We will not install fax lines, copiers, or large network printers in individual offices unless prior approval has been granted from the Vice President for Administrative Services. Miscellaneous Star Thomson requested that Presidents Council review the Managements Discussion and Analysis (MDA) which is part of the audit reporting process. Managements participation in this document is necessary. The economic factor is where management can put input also. Star needs the information back by next Tuesday. Carl Diekhans acknowledged the amount of time that Scott Nielsen and Star Thomson have put into completing the audit information. The language changes to the Sabbatical Policy and the Tenure Policy submitted by Linda Uhlenkott last week were approved by Presidents Council. Lisa Heise reported that the employee campaign is doing well. Over $5,000 in pledges has been received for the community center. The problem with the on-line Driver Education program, where test results were deleted from the system, is being looked into. Mike McFarlane stated that those affected will be given an extra two weeks to complete the course. John Rice will be in Reno to participate in a fundraiser at KUNR. He will also talk about local originating programming. John Rice reported he received notice from Dorothy Gallagher that Jim Gibson is announcing his gubernatorial campaign from the GBC campus on October 20 at 7:30 a.m., and everyone is invited to attend. Linda Uhlenkott reported that the Faculty Senate Chairs are being asked to present the Domestic Partner Benefits Policy to their senates. She will put this on the Faculty Senate Agenda for their next meeting on October 21, 2005. Lynn Mahlberg gave the highlights of the College Council meeting. Changes to policies and procedures must go through the following approval process: first, the changes must be approved by the departments; second, the Vice President for the department must approve. Changes go to College Council for approval, and finally to Presidents Council for final approval. College Council discussed customer service and the Ram Bucks program. Two training times have been arranged to listen to the customer service tape. Classified Council is hosting the chili cook-off on October 26, 2005.
