He asked PC to review the policy for possible approval next month. Carl will email system attorney Mark Ghan to get his input. Pahrump Discussion Paul Killpatrick reported that GBC has entered into discussions with NSHE, the city of Pahrump and CCSN about the possibility of GBC administering a community college branch in Pahrump. CCSN owns the high-tech center at the high school which is currently being used for classes. They currently have approximately 200 FTE. Pahrump is a rural area that might be better served by GBC. Dr. Killpatrick and Carl Diekhans went to Pahrump last week for an open discussion with CCSNs President Carpenter. These discussions are a cooperative venture between CCSN and GBC. GBC would have to have the money that was allotted to CCSN for Pahrump. We will need a memo of understanding with Nye County and CCSN. Discussions are continuing. 2005-2006 Regents Awards Paul Killpatrick reminded PC that it is time to start the nomination process for the 2005-2006 Regents Awards. Danny Gonzales has already received two advisor nominations. Miscellaneous Tammy Staley recommended that there should be a press release about GBC putting our athletic program on hold. She says she comes across students frequently who still think that GBC will be offering a sports program. John Rice will work on the press release. Dr. Killpatrick said that state funding to community colleges for athletic programs has ceased and that we would have to grow our own. It would cost $200,000 per year to operate an athletic program with a start-up cost of approximately $300,000. Data Feedback report from Gary Heberer was distributed. The data compares GBC to several colleges that are about the same size as us and located in rural areas.
