Nye County Update Paul Killpatrick was in the Pahrump area all last week. He also visited Beatty and Armagosa. At the end of the month, Paul plans go to visit Tonopah, Duck Water, Yomba, Round Mountain and Gabbs to meet with area principals and with county commissioners. He feels it is good to maintain a presence out there. Paul will also be meeting with Pat Warren today to start planning a kids college for Pahrump next year. Paul reported that Chancellor Rogers will be in Pahrump on September 25 for a town hall type meeting. The Pahrump business plan is almost complete. John Rice will work on finishing the plan in the next few days. Pat Collins, Jeff Cox and DJ Smith were in Pahrump last week. Next week, Phil Smith will be going to Pahrump. Carl Diekhans reported that we need to locate a vehicle for Pahrump to use. Linda Uhlenkott suggested that we put criminal justice and social work classes on-line as soon as possible because there is a need for those classes in Pahrump. Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival Paul Killpatrick asked for a recommendation from Presidents Council if we should continue to sponsor a balloon for the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival. Presidents Council recommended to forgo the balloon sponsorship but to continue to provide the venue and entertainment for the balloon glow. The balloon glow is scheduled for the evening of September 23. John Rice has booked Dirty Martini as the band. Presidents Council asked if the ICE Committee was doing anything for the Great Basin Festival this year. The ICE Committee is meeting next week to discuss ideas for the coming year. Its not clear right now what if anything is happening with the Great Basin Festival for this year. GBC Foundation - Campus Fundraising Packet John Rice provided an information packet on the procedure for campus fundraising. The Foundation will be presenting the information during in-service this Friday. The information provides background so there should not be any questions or problems with the fundraising process. The information is for all faculty, but it is particularly important that all advisors for student clubs and organizations be up to speed on fundraising procedures. Another training session should be scheduled for when the faculty advisors are back on campus. The Foundation is trying to eliminate the time spent on straightening things out when procedures are not followed. In the past students were given too much responsibility. The final responsibility of knowing and following the fundraising procedures lays with the faculty advisors. Auditron Numbers Carl Diekhans said there was some discussion in the past about changing the auditron numbers. Presidents Council recommended that the auditron numbers remain the same. Employee Recognition Program Lora McCarty presented the Employee Recognition programs with changes suggested by Presidents Council at the last PC meeting. The program will be presented at the Welcome Back on Monday. Miscellaneous Bret Murphy came into the Presidents Council meeting to inform PC that the Newmont meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled until further notice. Newmont is still looking at their costs. Bret did report some good news: that the CTE programs are full. John Rice reported that the errors in the latest Career Focus were caught by GBC staff, but the publisher will not take responsibility for the many errors in the last edition (misspelled words, typos, wrong e-mail address). We may want to reexamine using them. John has researched the new student enrollment for three years prior to publication. The enrollments have climbed, but no more than they have historically. John Rice reported that Chancellor Rogers and Regent Whipple are being interviewed this week for Elko Newsmakers. Carl Diekhans stated that we had to put two diesel instructors and Cliff Ferry in the adjunct office area. We will probably see more office sharing this year with our office shortages. We could possible use Dick Borino and Lynn Owenss offices as they are on sabbatical. Linda Uhlenkott said that the adjuncts were using the adjunct offices, so well have to find an area where adjuncts can conference with their students. We have to figure out our space problems. Carl Diekhans has been working on the preliminary budget figures for 08-09. We need to increase enrollments by 5% for two years of the three years of our hold harmless status. We are still not where we need to be. If Pahrump could be included as an enhancement, it would take us out of hold harmless. Carl Diekhans said that the property report was given kudos by Regent Sisolak. He wanted to acknowledge Dorinda Friez for putting the report together. Carl Diekhans reported that the forklift is broken. It will cost $10,000 to buy a new refurbished forklift. We can use money from the student funds because the CTE programs use the forklift. We also need to replace some vehicles: Lumina, Taurus and Mystique. We also need a car for Pahrump. We are looking at a minimum of $60,000, which will have to come out of the general operating funds. The big users are recruiter, administration and faculty. We might want to think about scaling down our motor pool and using Enterprise, which might cut down on insurance and maintenance. John Rice will call Bob Swadell about getting a car donated for Pahrump. Lynn Mahlberg reported that sixty students and parents attended the Transition to College workshop. She also reported there are many things on the calendar for the next couple of weeks. The student recruiter will be visiting all of the high schools in mid-September. Linda Uhlenkott reported the summer faculty advisors have been asked to continue advising through the first two weeks of school. They have been very busy recently. Summer advising has been very successful this year. *; 8 ]m9DPNOQRTUWXb jU6>*(89)*()wx & F ^`^ & F #^#`$a$$ & F ^`a$ ^`$a$Na \] ./56c & F$ & F ^`a$$a$ & F ^`^cdstNPQSTVWYZ[\]^_`ab & F 1h/ =!"#$% i8@8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@< Default Paragraph Font@@ Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJ,@, Header !, , Footer !b( z z zZ bC(89)*()wx\ ] cdstN\]c000000000 00 000000 0000 00 00 00 0 00 00 00 b cba@ @H 0( 0( B S ?4<MNNPPQQSTVWYZ`ch m .CQs--//< Mc Susanna DorrfC:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\__gbc\_drafts\administration\files\08-14-06-PCMINUTES.doc u08P$HHT^2~AtuE 08`レq nhQxB1q]p@h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h pLp^p`LhH.h @ @ ^@ `hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH. hh^h`hH) ^`hH) 88^8`hH) ^`hH() ^`hH() pp^p`hH() ^ `hH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^ `hH.h^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHohpp^p`OJQJo(hHh@ @ ^@ `OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHoh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJo(hHh^`OJQJ^Jo(hHohPP^P`OJQJo(hHh ^`hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h @ @ ^@ `hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH.h^`56o(hH.h ^`hH.h $ $ ^$ `hH.h@ @ ^@ `56hH.h ^`hH.h L^`LhH.h ^`hH.h ^`hH.h PLP^P`LhH. uT^2q nhP$B1quE08`@*5 @gbp@UnknownGz Times New Roman5Symbol3& z Arial5& zaTahoma?5 z Courier New;Wingdings"1h<&<&AZF * ,!0dN 2QHPGREAT BASIN COLLEGEGBC User Susanna DorrOh+'0 , H T ` lxGREAT BASIN COLLEGEREA GBC UserIN BC BC Normal.dot Susanna DorrOLL2saMicrosoft Word 9.0@@F3@¸j@¸j ՜.+,0 hp| GBC* GREAT BASIN COLLEGE Title !"#$%'()*+,-/0123458Root Entry FPO:1Tablek WordDocument"(SummaryInformation(&DocumentSummaryInformation8.CompObjjObjectPoolPOPO FMicrosoft Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.89q
