Nye County Update Mike McFarlane reported that he and Garry Heberer traveled to Pahrump to discuss job descriptions with the employees. They all have copies of their job descriptions. Mike also met with Dale Griffiths, English Instructor. We delivered twelve big screen television sets for the IAV rooms. Mike will be meeting with a biology instructor applicant on August 4. Computer Services, Financial Services, and Anneta Sharples will be in Pahrump the first week in August. Lora McCarty will be there the first week of classes just in case computers go down. The week before classes start, Julie Byrnes will be there to help with registration. Online and telephone advising has been ongoing. Its important to have a continual presence in Pahrump. A schedule should be compiled of who is scheduled to go to Pahrump and when. Mike recommends that the locks at the PVC be changed as soon as possible. Elko County School District Presentation Paul Killpatrick requested that Mike McFarlane be involved in a presentation at the Elko County School District Board meeting on August 28. He wants to address all of the partnerships that ECSD and GBC currently have and what kind of partnerships to do in the future. Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival deferred until John is back. Department and Director Responsibilities Mike McFarlane presented the Guidelines for Departments Interactions with Campus Directors procedure for approval. Presidents Council approved the procedure. Employee Recognition Program Lora McCarty presented a proposal for an employee recognition program called CLASS. CLASS stands for Connections, Loyalty and Service Satisfaction. The proposal is called the GBC Community Recognition program which would use the GBC Buck as recognition to any employee who has provided exemplary customer service. The concept is a good start. Presidents Council discussed a few alternative options and award ideas. Lynn Mahlberg recommended having a committee that meets each month to review all of the nominations. Presidents Council recommended that the review committee consist of all the Assistants to the Vice Presidents: Dorinda Friez, Yvonne Sutherland, and Janie Moore. Once a recognition program is implemented, all employees will be trained. Software Issues Jeff Cox reported that it is time to renew the license for our spam filtering for email ($1,800/year.) Jeff said there are better options to pursue. We can purchase Barracuda software (which is used by SPSS) for $3,000 with updates under $800/year. Or we can use a hosting service like Tangent. Tangent also uses Barracuda. Our email would be routed to Tangents service center where the spam filtering occurs. The Tangent option is $1,000/year and is the option that Jeff recommended to PC. Presidents Council approved going with Tangent for efficiency and cost savings. Jeff said the switch needs to happen this month, and some people may have problems registering their user name on the Tangent site. Computer Services is available if anyone has problems. Grant Update Jeannie Rosenthal provided an update on current grants. She is researching direct costs that can be applicable to the Nevada Early Childhood Education grant. Pending grants: Carl Perkins Basic (FY 2007) - $148,087.47 for funding the Rad Tech program start-up, funding of contract training in Winnemucca, and funding for professional development for CTE staff. Perkins Leadership (FY 2007) - $235,915.90. Nevada Early Childhood Education Comprehensive Plan (FY 2007) - $119,350 for funding the early childhood Literacy Program. The Nevada Humanities Committee (FY 2007) $9,000 for funding ICE committee (arts related) events. BLM Grant Mardell Wilkins reported she is preparing a grant application to the Bureau of Land Management for $15,000 to fund the website development for the Northeastern Nevada Partnership where information will be stored about sustainable development in mining communities. National Endowment Grant Mike McFarlane has been researching a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities that could support the Great Basin Indian Archive and create a Native American Studies program that links to the GBIA. The grant could fund some of the collection of oral histories and integrate them into the curriculum. The grant is for $200,000 maximum for two years. It only funds 80% of a project and starts April 1. Miscellaneous Lynn Mahlberg reported there will be a free forum for parents and college-bound students about easing the transition into college on August 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the GBC theatre. This concludes the PACE Coalition State Incentive Grant. Lynn Mahlberg reported that Student Services has two new hires: Adrianna Mendez, Recruiter, and Robbie Phillips, Student Life Specialist. Lynn Mahlberg stated that tomorrow morning she is hosting a breakfast meeting for Student Services professionals. Carl Diekhans reported that GBC was notified by the Public Employee Benefits Program that we can now allow employees to waive their benefits. We must be very careful not to advise them to do this, as it needs to be the employees decision. Jeannie Rosenthal said shes attempted to do some research for grants to fund a portal web system that John Rice had requested. WNCCs website was not funded by a grant. Cliff Ferry has tentatively agreed to coordinate the updating of our policies and procedures and redoing the GBC bylaws. He will start with the GBC bylaws. ;L ' H p 2 3BHT jU>*(67:; G H 23GH & F & F ^`$a$p./CD & F & F ^` & F & F 1h/ =!"#$% i8@8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@< Default Paragraph Font@@ Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJ,, Header !, , Footer !& z z z3 /r(67:; GH2 3 G H p/CD000000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0 0 0 00 00 0 0 0 00 00 00 0 @ @H 0( 0( B S ?[\@ - .
