Newmont Equipment Donation & Space Requirements Bret Murphy reported on the contract training that Newmont is proposing. An important issue is to locate a large space to house a haul truck, dozer and loader that would be donated by Newmont. The space would have to be secured by a fence. We would also need storage space for multiple smaller pieces of equipment. There really are only two places left on campus that may or may not work. Carl said that we also need fenced space for the solar array donated to the electrical program by Sierra Pacific Power. The solar array will take up 4,000 to 6,000 feet. Carl stated that now is the time to think about where our future buildings will be located. It would be good to schedule a separate meeting to determine how much space is needed and to get a visual of those needs. Review LCB Budget Presentation Danny Gonzales has been preparing the presentations for the Legislative Council Bureau which will be on campus this week. Danny went over the presentation and received recommendations for minor changes. The LCB will be hearing about our budget needs as well as touring the GBC campus and the Great Basin Center for Rural Health and Education and Services. Great Basin Center for Rural Health Education & Services Keith Clark and Gerald Ackerman went over their presentation to the LCB on the Great Basin Center for Rural Health Education & Services. The focus of the presentation will be about meeting the needs of the community: veterans needs and care for the underinsured, sliding fees, funding sources and educational needs. They also want to focus on what the center has accomplished thus far and then tour the facility. Some minor changes were offered by PC. Dr. Killpatrick will do an overview of the history of the project for the presentation. Classified Council Grant-in-Aid Timeline June Braaten presented the revised Classified Grant-in-Aid policy and forms. The policy has already been approved by Classified Council and the College Council. The main change to the policy was putting a timeline of one week for the Vice President or designee to review and approve. Presidents Council approved the changes to the Classified Grant-in-Aid policy. ICE Committee Update Pat Warren reported that the ICE committee has tried to tie their events to the NSHE system goals by focusing on diversity and accessibility for everyone. The ICE committee is requesting that the college provide a central bulletin board or kiosk so that they can have a central location to put photos of presentations and a calendar of events. The bulletin board or kiosk would need to be in a lockable glass case and well organized. Carl said we need consensus of where to put something like this on campus, what events go in it, and who is responsible for updating the information. June Braaten indicated that Classified Council might be able to donate funds for something like this. Pat Warren said that ICE committee needs a 4x4 bulletin board over by Caf X to put committee information on and later would like to post their information at the kiosk. Carl Diekhans will be put in charge of determining where to put a kiosk and who will update information in the kiosk and make a recommendation to Presidents Council. Pahrump Discussion Linda Uhlenkott reported that some of the adjuncts think that CCSN has the approval in whether they teach or not. Paul will have Mike McFarlane send a memo to Al Daniels to clarify some of the confusion down there. The adjunct faculty also does not understand how this is all going to work and how they will be paid. At this point, we cannot adjust our adjuncts pay to the Pahrump rate. There will be a phase-in equity adjustment over the next 3 to 5 years. Students in Pahrump appear to like IAV courses but not internet courses. We need to educate them on the WebCT courses and the benefits of WebCT courses. John Rice said that the Nye County Economic Development Authority contacted him for information about GBC to put into a brochure to be sent out to site selectors. Danny Gonzales and Jay Larson attended the Business Expo in Pahrump. The GBC Booth had overwhelmingly positive comments. It seems as though GBC is being embraced by the community. Bret Murphy said that we need two more students in Pahrump to register and pay for the CDL class in order for it to go. Strategic Planning Danny Gonzales reminded everyone that he needs area updates in the next couple of weeks and then a final couple of paragraphs summarizing each area before the substantive change is submitted. Master Schedule of Important Dates Mardell Wilkins asked that everyone take a look at the master schedule and get any changes or additions to her as soon as possible. Review and Approval of Policies and Procedures Introduction Presented to PC on 4/19 1.1 Mission Presented to PC on 4/19 1.2 Policies and Procedures: Adding, Revising, or Deleting Presented to PC on 4/19 1.3 Philosophies of Education Presented to PC on 4/19 4.14 Loans to Purchase Equipment Presented to PC on 4/19 1.5 Functional Duties and Job Descriptions Presented to PC on 5/2/06 1.6 NSHE/GBC Decision Making Presented to PC on 5/2/06 11. Miscellaneous Please get any changes to the above mentioned policies to Mardell for PCs approval at the next meeting. June Braaten was concerned that Classified was not included in reviewing the policies. It was explained to her that this is just a starting point to update the GBC policy and procedure manual. We will be taking existing policies and making minor changes to them and putting them into a new format. This will give us the starting point. We can do other updates as necessary. Laura Gallegos will be emailing the old policies out to the proper individuals for updating at which point it will go to PC for approval. June Braaten brought up the summer picnic for GBC. Classified Council planned the picnic last summer but does not want to be charged with planning it all of the time. They would be willing to help if someone from faculty or administration would like to head the planning committee. We will invite June to attend the next PC meeting so that we can discuss this more.
