Pahrump Discussion Paul Killpatrick reported that the NSHE Board of Regents will vote on the Pahrump issue at their meeting next week. Access Grant Overview Lynn Mahlberg reported GBC has received the Access Grant from the Nevada Department of Education the past couple of years. GBC will again be applying for the $10,000 Access Grant which will be used to bring students to our campus. The grant cannot be used for structures or equipment. This year the target of the grant will be twelve to fifteen year old students. The grant will pay for a summer program where we hope to bring two groups with at least fifty students in each group to GBC. They will explore career choices; tour a mine and the hospital among other things. We are still looking at financial feasibility which will determine what we will actually do for the students. Computer Purchase for Computer Lab Carl Diekhans reported that Presidents Council will be receiving an equipment list on what will be spent on equipment. Carl said there is a need to purchase fifty computers for the computer labs. The computers would have to be purchased this week in order to get the best deal. The better computers that are being replaced could go to Griswold Hall, and maybe put some in the Community Center. Other computers could be donated to non-profit organizations. Miscellaneous Paul Killpatrick reported that GBC will be presenting our budget to the system office today at 10:00 a.m. A PowerPoint presentation has been created by Danny Gonzales detailing our requests. Carl Diekhans reported that we submitted an offer for some property for sell by Griswold Hall. Our offer was accepted contingent on the approval by the NSHE Board of Regents at their next meeting in January. An environmental assessment and appraisals have been completed but not received. We will submit the documents to the Investment Committee when we receive the documents. The new procedure is that new property purchases must now go through the Investment Committee first before it can go to the Board of Regents. In this case our timing was critical; GBC could not afford to lose this property, and we were getting the property for below the appraised value. Danny Gonzales reviewed with Presidents Council the PowerPoint presentation for the campus budget meeting to be held this morning. The budget issues are divided into three themes that were created by the NSHE presidents. The themes are: Theme 1 Enhancing Undergraduate Experiences and Capital Improvements; Theme 2 Investing in Economic Development and Research; Theme 3 Health Care; Proposed Theme 4 iNtegrate Funding. Linda Uhlenkott noted that funding for the Nevada Writing Project needs approximately $43,000 per year in the next biennium to support the program. Currently, we are matching it with in-kind services of Bob McGinty. We need to have a line item for this project. Carl Diekhans will check into this matter. Danny Gonzales reported that the in-service luncheon for faculty and staff was excellent. A great deal of work went into the preparing the lunch. A huge note of appreciation goes to Buildings and Grounds: Eliseo Gonzalez, Humberto Munoz, Steve Riccord, Dick Stewart, Andy Stewart, Chad Oki and Chris Mitchell. Danny Gonzales reported that for next semester in-service we are thinking of bringing speaker/consultant David Bauer to talk to faculty and staff on how they can help the college raise money. Lisa Heise reported that as of the first of the year she has dropped the interim director of the Foundation title and went back to the Controller duties. The GBC Foundation Board will be meeting for the hiring process for a new director. Dr. Killpatrick thanked Lisa for stepping up to take on the additional responsibilities of interim director and enjoyed her presence on Presidents Council. John Rice reported that he submitted GBCs response to the Chancellors nine goals on Friday. Lynn Mahlberg reported that College Goal Sunday will be held on January 29, 2006. Paul Killpatrick, Danny Gonzales, and Scott Nielsen will be going to the Winnemucca Campus and Lynn Mahlberg will be in Elko.
